They keep calling me also.  Must be a scam - I was told it was Erica calling form Goldstein, Chapman, and Associates; no such firm on internet identified.

I don't know if it is a full blown scam or not but they have been pestering the crap out of me for some time now.  When I asked questions to challenge this debt they state I owe they got ticked off.  I too received a call that they are trying to send papers and were actually calling from an office located in my hometown but they would not give me the physical address.  Instead they want me to call 888-869-0233 for more information.  The number that comes up when they call is 919-134-5678.  If you all will notice, they are calling through the internet based on a number with the area code of the person they are trying to reach.  The last 7 digits of the "LOCAL" number they are calling from are the same.  My research shows this company as an LLC based in Delaware.  I personally know I do not owe the charges they state I owe.  I asked for the original debtor contact information.  I called them and --- lo and behold (GASP) --- the original debtor had no record of me in their system whatsoever.  Not in their general system or charge off system.  They searched for me by name, previous addresses, SSN, DOB, telephone numbers and place of employment and I simply did not exist.  When I mentioned this to Goldstein's supposed legal rep he got really irritated and nasty with me.  He then said he would no longer speak with me and that I would be served with papers.  About a month has lapsed and they're back at it again.  The way I figure it let them take me to court.  I have a letter from the original debtor stating that I never had an account with this company.  The expense of court will be on their dime --- plus a harassment suit from me.  Please all of you - if you have made 100% sure that the debt they are claiming you owe does not exist - please follow the same route and report them to the FTC.

Very informative post.  Based on what you've reported, I'm going with "yes, it's a full-blown scam"!
They almost certainly will not follow through on threats of taking you to court.  They haven't a leg to stand on.  They have not mailed you validation of the supposed debt as required by the FDCPA, and have further violated that act by threatening court action when they don't actually intend to do so.  The only way they will see the inside of a courtroom is as a defendant when YOU sue them for FDCPA violations!

I received a call from someone claiming to represent Goldstien Chapman and Associates. My husband happened to answer the phone. The man said he had some type of papers in an envelope -- he thought it was sealed, he didn't know. He said I needed to return the call to 888-869-0233 and gave a case # to refer to. He said He needed to deliver them and something about a summons.  I am NOT responding to this. I have been getting similar calls from other companies. I made sure my husband did not verify/confirm any of my info. If these people have legal documents for me then send them through the US Mail the proper way using certified mail! These people must think I am dumb to respond and verify my info so they can "serve" me legal documents. If they really needed to find me they haven't searched to hard because I have resided at the same address for 13+years and in the same general area for nearly 30 years!  THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!!!!!!!!!

I just received this same scam call from Chapman and assoc. Referring to a number of 1-888-869-0233. He also stated he the envelope is sealed and had no idea what was in it. He also was calling from a number and said he was from my home area. When he gave  me the case reference number. I told him, this is not a court case number for the County I live in, so send them by mail. Told me he had my address. I said told him " what you waiting for?" I am so sick of these scammer's. I report to every known dept I can find to stop this, but they are like cockroaches. I was told by the FTC and the BBB. That as fast as they start to investigate the scammer's shut down and move to another location and change numbers, all with in a day or so. All the energy they put into plotting these scams, they could put into having a real legit job. Thank you everyone for always being aware and your postings. they have all been most needed awareness for protection and information.  Be safe everyone!!!

Just got a call from them- they called ME to say they had papers for (I'll make it up to protect my neighbors) for "John Doe they would deliver to my house tomorrow. I said I wasn't John Doe, that was my neighbor (true). This neighbor of mine has been sued many times, is behind on child support, his wife has hidden a leased car from the collectors- so I would assume this is a collection agency of some sort. That they are using the summons story as a scam to deliver to MY house and then have me (unwittingly) deliver the subpoena or whatever to my neighbor's house.  But the fact that they had MY phone number makes me mad- I would not be surprised if my neighbor was giving our number out to people who called. I have no idea what it means, but she apologized and said she would remove our name from that system. Ridiculous! SHe did not ask me for any personal info- just that I would receive a legal delivery. I better not! Because I'll throw it in the trash!

Received a call from a friend about these guys looking for me. I was given a case# and a contact number of:888-869-0233, They addressed themselves as "Chapman and Ass.". Looked them up here and found them to be scammers. They probably looked up my address and found neighbors or friends to call me to "Legitimatize" their status. So if you got a call from a friend referring you back to these guys, you may have been scammed. I did not return the call back to these guys. That would have shown them that that way of contact is working. I did call my friend back and told them to throw the number away if they got called again and said sorry to them for the bother.

These people are scam artists. They have been harassing me for months. Still waiting for them to serve me, bring me to court, whatever. My suggestion: do not respond, do not answer unknown numbers, and if you accidentally pick up, hang up.

I found this site when I googled a phone number that was harassing me.  Someone else who had dealt with that same number had posted here, giving me the information I needed to get the calls stopped.  I'm here paying it forward.  In my case the calls were about a real debt that someone else owed.  For others on this board the debt is a lie was invented by a scammer.

How did you find this site?  Why are you wasting your time posting here?  Have you been getting calls from this number?  Or do you work for one of the scammers who use this number to run their scam?
