- Lucky| 1 replyFirst, 213-690-1287 called me the other day and said that I had won a "government grant" for $9000. Just because I was a student, no bankruptcies, had no criminal record for a specific time and that I was 1 of 1500 people to get this grant. I was sucked into it immediately considering I got to school online while working full-time as a Store Manager for Boost Mobile. Then he said to call 888-869-0311 for further instructions. so i called and they didn't answer 3 times. then she called back, So I asked what all I needed to do and she said take $270 to a Walmart and because Tennessee isn't a tax free state I had to go through some registration and then they would wire me the money with a reimbursement of the 270...I almost did it but my man told me to check it out first....I did and I think its a scam so no grant for me...NO THANK YOU!

- Kat replies to LuckyYes, it IS a scam. You have to apply for a grant, you don't just get chosen randomly for one.
And you certainly shouldn't have to pay for "free" money. If you had followed through, you would have been out $270 and you would also have been added to a list of suckers that will get passwed around to other scammers, resulting in more scam calls such as this. - RonI received a call about 5 min ago, exactly the same line word 4 word. The only thing I could tell you is be careful

- KiaraThis is a scam. They called me from a chicago #. Told me I won a grant and to call 8888690311. I decided to Google the # before I called anyone. While I'm reading the comments. The same Chicago # calls until I pick up. They ask me if I called the supervisors yet and if I was able to get through. I told them I'm not interesting and hung up. First the government will never call you to offer a grant you didn't apply for. Let alone harass and beg you to take their money. If you don't follow through, they just move on to the next applicant. Also they give you an exact deadline. All I'm saying is don't fall for this scam.
- Kimberly MiddletonIm glad im reading all of these comments!! I thought is was a scam and it is thank the Lord I was right

- siilverI got a call this afternoon from someone at the number 253-690-1287 (Name Unavailable) stating that, due to a demographic survey of 1500 people, done in my city and state in January, I was awarded $9000 in US government grants. I was told there was nothing to pay back, nor would there be any taxes. I was told that I needed to choose MoneyGram or Walmart to receive my money after calling a supervisor at 888-869-0311. I was told my confirmation number was SW1017. This lady, named Lexi, had an odd accent (possibly Farsi), and she knew my name, address, and work number. She told me the grant website was www.Grants.gov and the address was 200 Independence Ave SW (the HHS headquarters). About 5-10 minutes after the first call, Lexi called me again asking why I hadn't called the supervisor. When she realized I knew what she was up to, she became frustrated and got off the phone.

- ArnieI received a call 21 June 2016 from a lady with strange accent stating that I had been selected to receive a Government grant of $9000.
the reason for the grant was that I paid my taxes on time and the government was giving me back the grant. She told me to call the supervisor at US Gov Grant Department for further instructions. Also said grant would be paid in cash and asked if I wanted to receive it at Walgreen, CVS, or Dollar General. I said CVS. I ask where is your office? She said 200 Independence Ave, Washington DC.. This is a scam and I am glad I googled the phone number: 888-869-0311. Don't fall for it.- Caller: US Government Grant
