Received a hidden number asking me to call this number (888) 8697345 to get more info. Had all my wife's information including social security number. Asking for payment for old account or legal action will done after 24hrs. My wife still thinks it's legit. They sent her very nice electronic letters. Website admoreaquisitiongroup.com was on the email they sent. Checked and it's only 180 days old and the owner has his location hidden. Their address was off of 255 Rincon St, Corona, CA but you can't find the company in any map

The website you listed does not come up and Whois says you can buy it for $9.88.  Your wife is the perfect person to be scammed by these extortionists if she believes that.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC:  https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

Interesting, you read far enough down the thread to get to that post and ignored the one with information in it that would have helped you along with the links to federal and state agencies where you would have been able to learn more by reading.  Why was that?

I got the same type of call and they were rude and hung up. They try to use scare tactics about suing so I called the bank they said I owe money to and the bank said there was nothing on file and most likely was a scam

I received a call from a blocked caller Id.  When I spoke to someone they asked that I verify my information so that they could serve me with papers. Asked me to verify my social security number. I declined. They gave me a case number and said that there was a case that had been filled against me.  All clearly bogus attempt to get my social. DO NOT GIVE THESE FOLKS ANY INFORMATION.

I had a voicemail from a blocked number telling me I had 48 hours to respond to a complaint filed against me.  They gave the number 855-550-0643  Then my ex-husband texted me that this place was trying to get my personal information after we've been divorced for 14 years - I called the number and I was transferred to another number where a man told me I know who you are told me my age and that I have a birthday soon (it's 5 days away) this was starting to bother me I know all our info is on the internet, but it's still bothersome  - I told him I would no confirm any information and asked who he was representing.  He said I'd find out when I was served with papers  I said for what I don't owe anything and all my bills are current, he refused to tell me who was filing this claim, then said I would be served with papers, and I said I won't take them, and he said I would then go to jail for failure to appear in court - then said "get it together lady" and hung up on me.
