E. D. 147 3. I find it very suspicious never a company name was listed and all that they said was that they received a fax concerning this and that I could call them back be very careful with those that sounds like a scam

- RRVGot same type robo voice message. If someone is really serving you that don't contact you first. So either a scammer, a bottom feeding debt collector using illegal scare tactics or both.

- bencautiousGot similar call -- notifying me of civil suit that was filed against me over a "payday" loan, (don't even know what those are) even saying further that some partial payment had already been made and they had three other recorded calls on record. They had last 4 of my SSN, some bogus email address at Yahoo (never even been to Yahoo). Woman said she had a high number of calls and I could have my attorney call back and ask for their litigation department. This is some kind of criminal enterprise in my estimation.

- MeThese people are relentless. They leave similiar messages as above and then say, "You've been served." Okay 😂😂 They also call from local area codes... spoofed I'm assuming.
So I filed a complaint with the CFPB. - EliI had the same compliance call and I called them back and cursed at her and she hung up. No company name wouldn’t give me any information so it has to be a scam lol

- Ruthless| 1 replyAfter calling me relentlessly and my mother, father, and other family members I finally called them back. They knew my last 4 SS # and said it was in regards to an 8 year old Citi account etc.. I explained I already did a settlement on that debt and paid in May of last year and have the info to prove it. The guy Anthony said they'd send it back to Citi. I explained I dont care what they do as long as they stop calling my family members. I asked how they even got my mother in laws number and they said it must of been listed in the my account when I opened it. I explained that I was just married last year so that would be impossible. They have yet to tell me their company name. However it has continued. I spoke to a Karen and right before I was going to give her proof of my payment I was conveniently put on hold and hung up on. I tried calling back over 15 times but nothing. I believe this to be a scam. However, I'm going to keep calling until they stop calling me and my family. Let's see how they like it.

- BigA replies to RuthlessWhy would you go to all that trouble? It is not up to you to prove that you don't owe the debt. Simple as that.
It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it. You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that letter you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.
First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/
Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1
Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
List of State AG’s offices: https://800notes.com/faq/attorney-general - MannyThey have called every day asking for someone I do not know. I explained that they had a wrong number and no such person lived here. They hung up and still call every day between 7 and 7:30 AM! I had explained to them, again, yesterday, that the person they are looking for does not live here, and I had no idea who that person was, as well as it is against the law to call at such early hours and to take my number off their list. They hang up without saying anything. Got another call this morning, at 7:30. Just going to block their number.

- 888-873-6172| 1 replyWoman named Gretchen accusing husband of debt owed but calls me instead. Claiming we received mail (that we didn't), claiming someone will be coming to his job or house (but hasn't), can't provide valid information on this company or the one she works for. She hangs up repeatedly when challenged about the information and validity of it. Unprofessional... of course, because this isn't a real company. Hangs up on me, yet this number keeps calling me. I have gotten calls from this number for the second time around December about the same thing. This happened last December as well. 2 other people answer but they continuously forward to Gretchen who then hangs up. Says she is the manager and there is no one above her. Just block the number. If you owe debts, you would receive something in the mail before a phone call. This is a scam number.

- BigA replies to 888-873-6172While it is true that you would receive calls and mail from the original creditor, you will not usually receive a letter from a debt collector prior to first contact. I have previously posted that fact.
- botheredThey are calling about someone I know but never lived at my address and is not related to me. I am positive they are not in any circumstance to be served any papers yet that is what the caller claims. These type of people need to be stopped from scamming the innocent.
- LeslieHaskinKeep calling for someone I have never heard of and saying they want to serve me papers but never seem to know my home or residence. I would write it off as a total scam if it were not for the fact that I have a situation going with a payday loan company regarding a fraudster who cashed a check on my account. They gave him the money before they realized there was a stop payment on it and now want me to give them the money. No idea if these calls have anything to do with that situation though. I never answer my phone anyhow unless it is a known person.
