This is a scam to have you purchase a gift card for a discount on something like Xfinity.

I had a message left on my phone that xfinity had a special offer for me since I was a long valued customer.  I had to buy a Target gift card (target was partnering with comcast) and then buy 10 months of cable service, and after my bill would be $35.00.  I was stupid not to check the number before.  I had eye surgery the day before and should have NEVER made that decision.  I have alerted my credit card to refuse charges, I hope it ins'nt to late to stop the gift card.

If you bought a gift card & gave this caller the numbers, your money is gone & there's nothing your credit card company can do about it.

I was scammed today ,by spectrum cable ,as I was told ,my account was eligible for 50% discount, for 4 yrs., they were partnered with target & by paying for 1 yr of cable at reduced rate,I would then receive my paper bill at 50% amount for the remaining 3 yrs . I had to buy a target gift card & load it for amount of $780,because my new cable bill would be 50.%at $65 per month down from $133,..12 mos X $65=780,..well I did so & then received a text stating theirs a problem w/payment & to call the above number & that’s when I knew I was scammed ,because he was short & rude & told me I had to go buy more target card s and submits them & so I’m out $780

Not "Spectrum cable". They don't offer 50% discounts.

Looks like you paid tuition for a fairly expensive "Life Lesson".
Apparently, Target "gift" cards have recently become the card of choice for scammers, to the point that it has made the news (at least where I am) and local radio stations have played PSAs advising people that if they are asked to pay with a "gift" card, it is a scam.

You should have realized the scam when they were offering a 50% discount for 4 years.   At that point, you should have just hung up.  Even if you thought such a deal might be a remote possibility, you should have asked Spectrum directly using a verified number from their website or one of your billing statements, then you could have been told, straight from the horse's mouth, that they do not offer that discount and it was a scam.

But, as soon as they mentioned a Target "gift" card, you should have dropped that call like the preverbal hot potato, and just ignored that the call ever happened.  No (as in None, Zero, Not going to happen) legitimate company is going to demand payment in "gift" cards.  It does not matter if they are Target, Apple, Walmart, Blue Dot, Green Dot, Sizzler, Dairy Queen, etc.  Scammers. however, love those cards because the money is untraceable, and as soon as you give them the numbers from the card they can transfer it elsewhere and you are left with a little piece of useless plastic, with no way of ever getting that money back.  Really, the name says it all - "gift" card; you are "gifting" the money to someone else, and one is never expected to ask for a "gift" to be given back.

Had you thought a bit about it, you could have kept nearly $800 dollars in your own pocket, but the scammers bet on greed getting the best of some people, and (theoretically) saving over $3000 during that 4 years could be awfully tempting.  It appears that in your case, it was far too tempting.

This is probably one of the cases where "Everybody loves a free lunch".  Get something for nothing type.  In this case it was save $68 a month which actually is more that 50%.
