- MNo name in caller ID. Says it's time to renew antivirus software. Have never done this over the phone.
- JimReceived this call several times saying the need to renew antivirus software; to call this number 888-877-9577 or my credit card would charged $299. Just got a new computer and paid cash. Has the latest and greatest antivirus protection, so there is no way they could know my credit card number. Just phishing for the unexpected person to get a credit card number. Wonder how many people will actually fall for this scam.

- BMeshell| 1 replyLeft a message, called the number back and claimed they were the United states Social Security Administration. Man said my social security number was going to be suspended. He refused to give me any more information until I verified my social security info. He already had my full name and my zip code just so you know. I still refused and he said if I believed it was a scam I could just hang up and not waste my time or his. So that's exactly what I did!!

- MikeHuntleton replies to BMeshellThey don't like anyone wasting their time, so they say that to help shorten calls from anyone who is attempting to waste their time by holding them up from scamming someone else. Those are the "screeners" who pass on a potential victim to a "supervisor" who does the actual scamming. Scammers are the ONLY ones who will pretend to transfer you to someone else, sometimes several times and each will start the "script" again, to see if your really a sucker that will fall for the scam.
Warning! This is a Social Security Administration Scam number!

Scammers don't have a clue how the real SSA works and they are hoping you don't either.
The SSA doesn't suspend your ssn, file law suits, freeze accounts related to your SSN or issue Arrest Warrants.Do Not give anyone your SSN!
Or any personal information.
The current scheme is they say your SSN is involved with a rental car found in southern Texas, with blood & drugs. Next theres some address they say was raided and discovered several bank accounts used for laundering money under your SSN, so they have to freeze your bank accounts and issue you a new SSN, but you have to secure your accounts by getting some gift cards.
Another variation is "your SSN is misused in Colorado" for money laundering, drugs, etc ......pretty bizare "off-the-wall" stories, its so hard not to laugh at them.- Only a scammer would leave a message telling you "someone" is using your SSN for criminal activities, then try to say your in trouble for something you didn't do!
- Only a scammer would say "legal enforcement actions".
- Only a scammer is going to call you and demand you pay them over the phone to avoid an Arrest Warrant that doesn't really exist. You would first have to go to Court and disobey a Court Order to get an Arrest Warrant issued. If an Arrest Warrant was issued, a Sheriff would suddenly show up at your door to serve it, they don't warn you they are coming and they don't put it on hold until you decide what to do.
- Your SSN can't be canceled, revoked or suspended because it is a number assigned to your birth name for Identification purposes, only scammers say it can. It IS your Identity as much as your name is.
- New SSN must be applied for with a misuse report on the old one and its FREE.
- Only scammers ask you to pay using Gift Cards. They are not designed to be a method of payment.
