888-900-1964

I received an alert on my computer when I accessed a link on a website and it directed me to call this number to have a virus or malware removed before I did anything else on the computer.  Was this a scam or a legitimate concern?  The recording told me to call 888-900-1964.  Is this a legitimate number? Should I be concerned?

This is one of the biggest scams going on right now.  If you call that number they will take money from you for nothing and install viruses, malware, spyware, or ransomware, and steal all your information as well.  Do not give them access or call the number.  If you did already, then you will need to take your computer to a brick and mortar shop in town to be cleaned and will also need to change all your passwords, and bank information, as well as anything else on that computer such as a contact list.

I just had the same issue, did not call the number but can not get rid of the page. Should I take it to the Apple Store? Do u think they could have connected?

I am not sure how Mac's work, but I think you have to force close the page, and remove any cookies.  I doubt they gained access, this is usually something that comes up when you go to a page with advertising.  You need to upgrade your firewall and virus.
