Received a call from (442) 499-0652 that told me to call (888) 965-1222.
A non-native English speaker left me a message that claimed she was "Shania from National Document Services, and I am calling to follow up on a document received in our office for (my name, mispronounced).  Documents regarding your file are being prepared to send out, and you'll need to be available to sign for delivery…"  In order to stop this action from being taken, I have to contact an issuing agent immediately at (888) 965-1222.  No indication was given of what documents are being sent out nor why I would want to stop this action, just vague scary scam language.

The fake process server/location specialist scam usually contains:

They mention that they have received a Fax document or that some sort of complaint has “come across my desk” and that there is a pending legal matter or action about to filed against you to create the sense of urgency.  They tell you that they are a “process server” and cannot give you the particulars of the case since the file is sealed. This is simply ruse to get you to call another number (often with a made-up case number) where they will ask for money to “make it go away” (this is actually the same place, they work in teams, one pretending to be the server, and the other usually pretends to be a lawyer).  They threaten to serve you at home or at work.  They tell you that if they serve you at work they need a supervisor, security, or HR person there as a witness, hoping that will cause you to panic over the alleged embarrassment of being served at work.  They also tell you that you will need two forms of ID.  None of which is true.  Process servers do not ever call ahead so that you can dodge them.  Process servers get paid to serve papers, nothing else.  They certainly are not going to pass up a paycheck by telling you that you can avoid being served, they are not going to give you an extra day or even a few hours to get a “stop order”.  Court documents are time sensitive and have to be served within a certain amount of time.  Remember that you can always call the local courthouse to see if there is actually a lawsuit that has been filed against you.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation. It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified. If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

I received a phone call from this number. The woman identified herself as Audrey Smith. She said that they had a sealed document that they were attempting to serve me. I asked her who the document was from she said she didn't know or couldn't say because it was sealed. I said well you should at least know who it's from because you say it's right in front of you. She then rattled off a reference number and gave me a phone number 877 9651222 to call back. I called it back the gentleman on the other line was incredibly rude. I ask him what the document was as I had been through the court records to see that I don't have any legal action against me he then told me that nothing had been filed yet and just to wait for it to come. So I waited a little bit and called back again and told him I was at the courthouse and that there's no record of any case at all pending or otherwise and that in order to have a document being served through the court it would have to have a case number attached to it. He then told me I was an idiot called me a liar said I wasn't at the courthouse and proceeded to insult me for quite a long time. Then I told him yes I'm not as smart as everybody else I have autism. He then proceeded to tell me that I don't have autism that my fat mother ate a bunch of processed foods and sweets when she was pregnant with me which is why I'm autistic. I said nonetheless I'm still not as intelligent as most because I suffer from the choices of my mother and you're not being very sensitive. He then told me to wait for my court documents and then I said should I wait at home and he again started insulting me and calling me names and saying I think that I'm smarter than I am. Be warned not only are they aggressive but they're also quite insulting. I really feel like there should be some sort of legal action that can be taken against these companies as I do have autism and phone calls like these can trigger outburst and anxiety in me. I already have a confusing enough life there needs to be severe penalty and punishment for companies like these especially with people like this.

Received the same exact call as Todd did. The call was from (914) 216-0219.
"Shania from National Document Services, and I am calling to follow up on a document received in our office for (my name, mispronounced).  Documents regarding your file are being prepared to send out, and you'll need to be available to sign for delivery…"  In order to stop this action from being taken, I have to contact an issuing agent immediately at (888) 965-1222.

No details on what documents were being sent, and the caller was obviously not American.

Recieved a call from a local area code number saying the same as others listed here. Saying I had a complaint, said my FULL NAME, said I had to be home to sign for package from agent, to call an 8889656714 number to prevent further actions that they will show up at my work. Called that number they listed and it was some man named Michael C. and he took me off the call list. Sounded like he was irritated from all the calls he was receiving. Tried calling the number that called me back with my area code on it, and it said it wasn't available and to call the number here (888 ending in 1222) called that and it was the guy named Michael, AGAIN. I hung up immediately. Obviously a scam and needs to be fixed. Terrifying.

I just received a call (10/07/2024) from a local area code in Indiana. A foreign woman said she was calling from National Document Services, regarding a civil suit they received. He asked what this was about and she said this call is for XXXXX, (who is our adult son). He said "I'm his father what is this specifically about" . She said have him call 888-965-6714 and they would explain.
My wife started by calling the local number the call came in on 765-204-7616. The message said this number does not take incoming calls, please call 888-965-1222.
When she called a man named Michael answered. She explained I had just received a call from National Document Services and was told to call this number. He said this is regarding a civil suit against XXXXX (my son) and you don't sound like a XXXXX.
Again she pressed him asking what county is this suit was out of. He said I can't give you that information. She said 'This doesn't sound legit' He responded 'Doesn't sound legit, huh?"' and chuckled. She followed by saying 'And that doesn't sound like a professional response'.
He repeated 'I can't give you any information it's against privacy laws' she said 'You most certainly can, he's under age!' He said well then this is the wrong 'XXXXX' b/c his birth date is Xx/Xx/19xx and if you'd told me that from the get go you could've avoided all this!' And hung up.
When she researched the original 765 number it showed it is a PEERLESS NETWORK VOIP #.
The BBB gives PEERLESS an F rating with 100+ complaints about this very same type of call.
She wasn't satisfied that all she was left with was to register these numbers on the "Do Not Call" list, so she called the Indiana State Attorney General's office to see what more could be done.
They told her they would contact PEERLESS NETWORK and have these and any other numbers regarding these complaints SHUTDOWN!
IN ADDITION to registering this complaint, I would also encourage you to contact your individual State Attorney General. Thx!

I just received the same type of message from Victoria 480-674-9156. She said there was a complaint against me and papers were being filed. I would have to sign for delivery. Of course this made me nervous. What did I do? Then it said to contact 888-965-6714. I went online since I never call back an unknown number and I found this here. Then I dialed *67 to block my number and called their number. It said the same thing about not taking incoming calls which didn't make sense since they said to call. Then it said to call 888-965-1222 which is the same as above. Obviously this is a SCAM and something serious should be done about scam callers. Good thing I didn't hear this message right away. It was from 2 weeks ago and no one asked me to sign a delivery.
