2001 was just yesterday. Is there a reason to call you without it, and if so, what way to try and rip you do they use? Pay no attention to it, and if you have doubt, contact the company at your convenience by ways YOU find. Not random, threatening callers.

JBS Consultants Tried to scam me today. I mentioned I had a lawyer and they were being recorded and then he refuses to give me any more information! He gave me an address in California Telucala-something like that-but the only JBS in Cali is in Carlsbad (?) He also states that their means of communication is by fax and that my "lawyer" would have to contact him via FAX ONLY, to give him permission to talk with me about a "summons."  Hahahahhahahaha hahahahah what an nincampoop!!!
WTF.... I really hate people that try to take advantage of others because they can't get a legitimate profession.
I can see how someone a bit less weary and or possibly older, would easily get scammed.
JBS CONSULTANTS WILL TRY TO COLLECT ON DEBTS THAT ARE PAST STATUTORY LIMITS.
Always ask for a "validation notice"sent to your address. This is required by LAW. If they are legit, they will indeed send it and you have to then make do on what's due. :))))

Don't call them back; it's as scam. You are also under no obligation to give your family member a message. If they can find YOUR number, they can find your relative's number. Just block and ignore their calls.

Collection of debt has no "statutory limit".  They are required by law to send you a dunning letter.  You should not have to ask for it.  Validation of debt must be made in writing within 30 days of receipt of that letter and should be sent by certified, return receipt mail.  If notified that you are represented by an attorney, they must at that point only contact that attorney.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Read up on your rights here and also make a complaint at this government site:  http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
