Received 2 phone calls - one from this number and one from 585-445-3311, claiming to be from "Samuel Whitaker and Associates." First time they called, they said they needed to speak with me regarding "an account with my name and social attached." Second time they called, they said they were looking for a family member.

OK, a few things. This man was VERY aggressive when I asked him to provide paperwork. Secondly, having previously looked up this number and seen other reports of potential scams, I asked him if he was from the same Samuel Whitaker & Associates that had been reported as having taken part in phone scams. He really didn't like that. Then I looked up the actual company - http://www.samuelwhitaker.com/home.html - it's not even a real web site.

These people claim to be a collection agency for HSBC, but the amount of money my family member was told they owe was 10x what they actually owe. This was confirmed by HSBC. Having read accounts where people mention old credit cards or closed accounts, I'm wondering if perhaps "Samuel Whitaker" somehow obtained HSBC's customer records.

Bottom line: THIS IS A SCAM. Do not give them any information. Tell them to contact your attorney and see how quickly they hang up on you.

These people claim to be a collection agency for HSBC, and the amount of money of $2,000.00
They said that I have to pay $500.00 over the phone inmidiaty or they bring me to the Court.
I called the HSBC bank and they say they I don't have account with them.  And called the national report and they said that I haven't account.  These people have all of my information.  But it is not my accounts.  I hope that this can help.  Thanks

A vague yet urgent matter was the subject of a voicemail. Same as reported below - something pending ... attached social... - really vague.

Call came from number as listed below - 585 445 3311 but was told to return call to 888 996 9746 Didn't speak to anyone but did hear the company name - Sam Whitaker and associates.

That's the entirety of my report, as I don't intend to communicate with them. I was pretty sure it was a scam right from the first--  because it is HIGHLY unusual to receive a message like that at 8pm.

Sketchy voice mail left from a katherine joseph saying they are a server for sam whitaker and associates. says they have court documents to file regarding a debt attached to social security number. The call was from 888-996-9746 but they said to return the call to 585-445-3313.

Scam alert!!

Person claiming to be "Amy" said she had a pending matter attached to my social security number & that I, or my attorney should return the call to 1-888-996-9746. I will now block this number.

Was contacted by a man names Jonathan Matthews saying he worked for Samuel Whitaker, then said he was a lawyer with Walter, Williams & Associates.  Wanted $2200.00 but would work with me and take a $1000 if I paid within 24 hours.  He knew way too much about me, including social security number. He told me if I didn't pay that they were just going to take the money from my existing credit cards, and seize my home, and car!!
I asked him to provide me with credit card that I supposedly defaulted on, he could only provide me with first 12 numbers, which I know the last 4 are the numbers I need to  know it's mine, first 12 is a batch number that millions other could have too, and would only tell me it was a Visa, no bank name associated with this card?!!
I also asked for a copy of all the charges I allegedly made! Said he couldn't do that! Used the Privacy Act as his defense!
I have my credit reports going back 10 years, and the card # he semi provided is nowhere to be found!
I almost paid him, but I let myself take a deep breath and think about it! I also googled his company and found this page...thank you for all your comments... I called the Attorney General in my state, explained the situation, and the first thing they said was "it's a scam ". Don't answer his calls, don't pay him, and report this to the SS bureau, and all my credit cards.

If this truly is a debt I owe then they can sue me, take me to court, and show me proof of this debt!
If it's mine, I will pay, but he's not getting a dime from me until then!

Tuesday I recieved bother call from Ms. O'connell, from a private number, telling me they were going to be serving me papers at my home or work place. Told me to have my ID, or to call 312-328-0843 to talk to someone about settling this matter.  This is the number for "Jonathan Matthews". The same character that that threatened me last week!  The same guy I reported to my states AG.
He is also associated with Samuel Whitaker & Associates .  Walter, Williams & Associates and now I am finding him to be associated with JMK Associates.
Not dealing with these sketchy people ever again!  Scam!!!!

I've received communications from legit debt collectors in the past. When I was young - defaulted student loan, a debt with a bank, etc. I know how these communications are supposed to go. These people are not legit. Why such vague messages? In the past, messages from legit collectors say exactly what the debt is in relation to. And I've never had a legit business communication at 8pm. What debt collector calls that late? And, by the way, they never contacted me again after I ignored the first message. Well, they called several more times but left no message. And that right there - giving up after just a handful of calls and leaving only one message - is something a legit collector would NEVER do. Actually, allow me to rephrase - they never left another message about THAT PARTICULAR super vague matter BUT they have just now, months later, contacted me about a brand new issue-- Apparently my mother is the subject of a forcable recovery lawsuit. Really? Amazing it's the same law firm. What a kawinky-dink!

Catherine Joseph...a male...has called numerous times on my cell phone, but today I got a call at my work. How do I stop this?

This is the second time in 2 years these scammers tried to get money! The first time I did my homework and called the credit card companies. They stated I didn't have open accounts with them! Have not had a credit card in over 7 years so apparently thrir records are not up to date!
These calls seem to coincide with applying for loans.
They are now calling my husband and my workplace.
Wish they would stop trying to take hard working people's money and get a job!

Same as the other posts, except claiming to be attorneys and we need to return the call because litigation is starting on 3 civil suits.  Big scam!

I received a voice mail from a woman that was very vague, not even using my name, claiming to have legal documentation in my name and SS# that will be served at home or place of employment with in 48 hours. I star69'd the number at it came back to SWA Processing, then googled it back to Samuel Whittaker & Assoc in Albany New York. Then I found all the other comments about similar calls to others. I will not engage with these people.

They called my home phone and my sister in law saying they was from Samuel Whitaker and Associates saying my husband owes money from a payday loan back in 2009 and told me the bank and they even got his last name wrong saying he owes the 2000 but will work it out for 856.00 they also said  they have court documents to file regarding a debt attached to social security number but the number they called from is 518-203-3522 is was and Ava Stevens but i called them to see what this was about i talked to a guy name Robert Greer lot the info he gave me was wrong after looking at all of this i believe this is a scam if it true they just have to take him to court before i believe it i been scam too many times i am sick of it

I received a call from an Ann Marie from Samuel Whittaker stating I owe a debt and I had 72hrs to respond to her or she was going to file a civil suit in two counties that was close to be. Was any of you guys served papers? The number she called me from was 518-203-3522. I filed a report through the federal trade commission and I contacted my attorney and attorney general. I pray these people will be caught!

Robert Greer keeps contacting my cell and work numbers claiming to have a suit attached to my name and social. A woman tried calling form the same company months ago. I just block and ignore all contact from them as this is a SCAM!

I can't find a BBB page for them. NY BBB is pretty strict on DC's and information they require.  So is the NY AG as well.  Follow the steps in what you need to know below. Send the C&D to both addy's listed.  Even if its returned, it still counts..

***A company must be licensed in their state as well as the one they are trying to collect in if two different states are involved.

Some Tips:
*Keep all messages
*Take a picture of your Caller ID
*Keep any and all conversations recorded to your states recording laws, some require they be told, others do not. This can be transferred to a recording device.
*Keep a notebook handy for writing time,date, who you spoke with and what the conversation detailed.
*Check your SOL for your state as well.
*Attorneys need to be licensed as a DC to collect, all DC's must be licensed in their state as well as yours if different.
