Called my cell - left no message

Called soliciting for funds for breast cancer individuals who need financial help.

Calls and leaves no message.

Called my cell looking for a "Jamal". Told them no one by that name at this number. She then said "Well maybe you can help me" and started the raising money for best cancer speech. Not sure if they are legit or not but if they don't even know who they are calling I hang up.

Sounds like a robocaller. Asked for "Gerald" and when told she had the wrong number tried to convince me to donate to some group that supposedly raises funds for breast cancer victims. I hung up after she wouldn't take no for an answer.

Charity calls are commonly placed by a hired commercial fundraiser. Like all non-sales calls, these are exempt from federal and most state no-call registries, even though the call centers executing the recurring campaigns are very much for-profit and pocket most of what is collected.

At times the ''charity'' client is itself a closet profit enterprise, compounding the deception. The "breast cancer" appeal is a common premise for charity fraud, closely related to "hero charity" pitches for alleged firefighter, police, and war veteran causes. Entire call center firms exist for the purpose of blasting that call category. Never forget that "nonprofit" is a tax category, not an indicator of actual earnings and not a guarantee that anyone who deserves your generosity will benefit.

The hired fundraisers are expected to keep an internal no-call list and add any number upon request, else they risk FTC enforcement and fines. They can also be spanked for excess call abandonment, transmitting inaccurate Caller ID, and calling outside default hours. Because the amounts collected are rather small, these call centers are quite motivated to repeatedly hassle you and ignore your verbal demands to quit.

They may be exempt from DNC, but they are not exempt from call block!

Same MO........ asked for WESLEY then proceeded to start the breast cancer beg. The number IS now call blocked.
Do these complaint sites actually get monitored? At least we know it's a scam we're not  alone in. When they call after 7pm you know they're a scam.

We know shills for other fraudulent businesses keep tabs here because we have to keep rebutting them daily. The traffic for commercial fundraiser threads is uncertain. The worst industry players apparently believe like the best that what they're doing is justified somehow. If you suspect fraud or Telemarketing Sales Rule violations you can't sit on your hands. You need to confront the source of your calls as I suggested the other day, and also take your gripes to the FTC and attorneys general.

Federal law disagrees, giving the call centers another two hours, your time zone, each night.

Got a call from 904 513 9736, and like many comments below they asked for the wrong name, Richard.  I answered, "You must have the wrong number, no Richard hear."  She then went into a speal raising money for breast cancer.  Sounds like she is not legit.  She has been calling a lot of people without the correct name.  I've had my number 15 years.  I'd like to know how she got my number.
