- jay jay| 1 reply(904) 863-0217 3 pm or so Tues Sept 8 2009 This female caller voice asked about "important to talk to someone about your credit card expiry". Bogus of course since call was from Florida and I'm in Toronto, Ontario , Canada. Must press "1" to talk to someone.
Totally legal call even tho' I'm not on the do not call list in Canada. Calls from US are not part of the law. Unfortunately authorities here in Canada do absolutely NOTHING about calls from within Canada either. News media have tried to get info on who makes improper telemarketing calls in Canada, but have been stonewalled by the CRTC which oversees the system.- Call type: Telemarketer
- TerrificInTahoma replies to jay jayHey, Jay Jay:
Sorry about the waste of your time by the scammers (.err Alleged scammers - Legitimate Credit Consumer Improvement Service Bureaus)
Try sending a letter to Your MP in Ottawa, and CC the Minister of Industry, Hon Mr Baird.(Current to 2009-09-09 September 9th). and the Do Not Call administration in Ottawa (C.R.T.C. branch).
Yes, I know it would be a hassle, but it's a numbers game. The more people who complain to the respected agencies, the more likely (maybe, - maybe not) that action might be done about it.
My Suggestion is write to the Us's FCC and see if they will add Canadian Area Codes to their list of numbers that can receive complains from. Currently you can't do that if you have a Canadian Area Code.
-TerrificInTahoma - Canuckcalled 2 days in a row and never says anything, just an open line. I just hang up.
- SallyCalled three days in a row last week and started again. Don't hang up quick enough so I get a hang up on voice mail. Incredibly annoying.
- terrence| 2 repliesI got a call from this number this morning (September 16, 2009). It was a REALLY, REALLY CHEAP flight to the Caribbean, or somewhere. I am in Canada, like many other commenters.
I spoke to someone who said she would take my number off their Do Not Call List, if a gave it to her. I reluctantly did so.
BTW, the Canadian Government (DNCL) does in fact prosecute telemarketers in Canada as well as in the USA who ignore the DNCL. It recently fined some sleazy outfit, thousands of dollars, and vowed to increase them if the sleazy outfits had more complaints.
Some of the American telemarketers are sleazier than most, so it is harder to nail them. But, they can and go after them in BOTH Canada and the USA. - terrenceTo clarify - it was a least one US telemarketer who was fined, and the sleaze bags are obligated to pay the fines.

- Mike| 1 replyThis number called and said they wanted to lower my credit card interest rate. I asked for the name of the company and they said they were my credit card company Mastercard or Visa and that they only needed my card number and pin code in order to lower my rates. I asked if the guy was crazy. If they were my credit card company, not only would they know what type of card I had, they would already know my number so I asked again what company the guy was calling from. He said, 'Aren't you smart, you f*#king moron and hung up. You would think that there should be a law agency that you could report such obvious scams to but it seems there isn't. What I've been able to find out is that the calls originate in Green Cove Springs, Florida. That's all. Be aware and tell your friends.
- BrendaSept 23 09, 904-863-0217 called. Something about credit card. I pushed '1' and a human answered with 'Credit Services' when I asked what comopany, silence, then she hung up. Five minutes later they called again. I reported it to Bell Canada and it is from Florida. I intend to keep reporting these annoying calls, hopefully they will eventually be shut down.

- JThey called and offered lower credit rates. They wanted to know my total debt and I told them it was $1200. Then he hung up on me. I guess he wasn't interested.
I reported them to donotcall.gov, since I am registered with the do not call registry. - Joe K.Wasn't home when they called. They didn't leave any message.
- Airhorn into telephoneCalled BOTH home and business lines today. I pressed 1, and told the young man on the other end that he was an accessory to criminal activity. I shamed him for calling and ripping off the ignorant and elderly. He repeated slowly to me that the service was 'LEGITIMATE', when I continued to explain to him how criminal he was to contact me, the punk kid replies: But YOU were the one who pressed '1' to speak to somebody. I replied, I pressed 1 TO INFORM YOU PERSONALLY THAT YOUR BUSINESS SCAM IS NOT WELCOME HERE! I kept making really good points to him, then he sarcastically said goodbye, hung up on me.
Reported to the Canadian DNCL: same old story, yeah the government will help protect you from these scams... blah blah blah. HEY GOVERNMENT, HEY CRTC, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, NOTHING!! THANKS FOR WASTING MY VALUABLE TIME, NEXT TIME I FART INTO THE PHONE.- Caller: credit card "services"

- Tracy replies to terrenceUnfortunately there is little that can be done about cross boarder telemarketers.
The C.R.T.C will only direct you to your phone company who can do nothing for you.
The F.C.C will not discuss it as you are not in the US.
I suggest that you avoid the frustration of calling your phone company and contact Phone Busters who work with law enforcement. They may be able to give you direction. http://www.phonebusters.com/ - MoFoCalled again today as well as yesterday. Annoying.
