SCAM SCAM SCAM.  I didn't recieve a call, but rather a letter and a VERY real looking check for $4890.00 (Which I really could have used).  The letter said the check was for the payment of taxes of $2970.  The letterhead of the letter was HELLMANN WORLDWIDE, INC. in Bramford, Ontario. I was to call this number to activate my account.  The person that answered was very hard to understand (very thick accent) but he wanted me to deposit the check and then send him $2980.00 for "fees" and then he would send me my winnings of USD 260,000.00. Wow!

I asked if he was crazy or did he think I was that dumb that I would send HIM money to collect my winnings.  He got very perturbed and said he could not send me my winnings if I didn't pay the fees.  I told him to donate my winnings to The Fallen Firefighters Fund, and hung up.  I then took the check, letter and envelope to my local postmaster.

The letter was signed by Mr Patrick C. Freeman [payment officer] and Ms Sasha Andrews [Claim Agent] (Punctuation and capitalization as written)

I hope these scum get caught and jailed!!!

I got the same letter. Same thing almost word for word. They must have run off copies to send to everyone! I plan on taking it to my post office as well. I hope no one falls for this but it could happen.

I also received this letter. My husband wants me to contact the FBI and Chris Hanson from MSNBC. It is only a matter of time before someone cashes this check and gets royally screwed. I must have to admit I could seriously use $260,000.00

I received this letter as well. I am not one to fall for scams, but this check looked so legitimate that I almost called the number. Instead I thought I would do a search for the phone number and got this page of others who receiev the same letter. It is hard enough to make a living nowadays...but to have to watch out for people trying to screw you out of your hardwork just makes it that much worse.

I also received this letter. It went straight to the shredder when I read everyone else's comments. Thanks everyone for the heads up!
