"Karen", from the "Vehicle Service Department" calling to sell an extended warranty, no doubt.  Thanks, Ohio, for not figuring out what is PERSONAL information, and selling it to every scammer on the planet  : /

call went to voicemail - female spoke and said hello twice - background voice noise - then she hung up.  I put phone on private caller and called back.  When phone was answered I gave them a blast of radio static - they picked up on my second call and they got a blast of a high pitched sound.  On third call they got wise and didn't answer although call did go through - you hear a "bloop" sound.  The scammers got wise.  Anyone who can do the same should do so and make these miserable scammers' lives as miserable as possible.

Illinois has done the same. I've been getting calls for several years now to purchase a warranty for a car I don't even own any longer! I haven't owned it in quite some time. I wish someone would file a class action lawsuit over this. Don't know if it's the warranty company who sells the personal info or who it is. Maddening really.

I wish we could - here in Ohio, we no longer even have the choice.  They claim, since it is "public" information (it's not) they HAVE to sell it to whoever comes knocking, in batches for less than a cent per driver/vehicle.  Either that, or my face was lied to, in person, at a certain Ohio BMV which shall go nameless...

From what I understand, in order to comply with Federal Laws, they have to allow you to opt out.  They are not legally allowed to sell the information otherwise.  They should not be selling it at all to begin with, but lawyers have found a loophole in the Federal Law that takes precedence over State Laws.

Well well well - looks like some laws have been amended since I last looked.  It's about time!  Too bad some of our information got out in the wild before Ohio clamped down on it a little.

Of course, I think accident reports are still fair game, but it looks like info used to license and register your car are a little more controlled now.

Scams - Brightlink robo calls folks until they get an answer and then swing to a barely alive telemarketer which is almost a robot cuz they'll keep talking right over you until you end the call... by getting your info from click bait - they then use it to robo sell vehicle warranties, loans, pain meds just approved to the market, blah, blah and so on. You'd think in this day of technology the phone would be the last place they make money cuz folks just hang up. Who even buys this stuff...but...if they can get you to agree to ANYTHING...they will bill you and then follow up with collections calls...DON'T every say the WORD "yes" and don't ever acknowledge who you are. Free offers will abound. Don't fall for it.

These people  Brightlink Comm  has been calling at least once a day, sometimes more, and use a different phone number each time.   All with Alaska  907 area code.  If you want to block them you have to block the name...not the number.   I have no idea who they are or what they want.   The first two times they called I let it go thru but they left no messages.   So I blocked them.

Or you could simply block the whole area code.

I can't do that because I live in that area code, so I would be blocking all my friends, family & other calls I want to come thru.  But otherwise I could do that as I have done with other area codes.

Brightlink called my home using the number 907-275-8120.  I didn't answer. They didn't leave an answer.   Second time I got a call from them and both times they called late at night.  I'll be blocking them.
