Message in broken English. Message says second attempt so I can help them help me. (The writer of their script must be a big Jerry McGuire fan).

Same recorded message from Indian guy named "Steve Martin" stating that I've violated some US Treasury thing. Gives the same number for call back. Received this call a week or so ago from a different number. Called them back and guy answered saying he was from Dept of Legal Affairs. So if that's the real number they are using and not a spoofed one they should be able to be identified, right? Pity nobody does anything about these scammers.

Another caller stating I was in trouble with the US Treasury or the IRS. Left a message stating "help us help you" avoid further problems with the magistrate or something like that. Didn't leave a name this time. Last time it was Steve Martin calling from 949-873-7420. I'd call back but I don't want them to have my number. I'd like to set these people up or find out what it is they want you to do when you call back . Anyone talk to them and what dis they want ?

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.

One important thing to remember if these losers have any of your personal information such as your social security number, date of birth or drivers license make sure you register with identity protection notify the credit agencies as well as your banks!!

The email address at Treasury that you suggest using just results in a bounced message. I used phishing@irs.gov instead.

Maybe whoever writes this guys scripts has a sense of humor??   Yes - "Steve Martin" called and wants to "help us help me"  As Amy Poehler and Seth Myers would say..."Really?"   The caller's accent and the static on the call makes it difficult to understand the entire message but it sounds like the already widely publicized scam trying to scare people into thinking that they owe the government money and they better pay up or, ...as "Steve Martin" threatened, if they ignore the call they will have to face a U.S. magistrate.  I think we will keep the message on our answering machine to play for when we need a laugh.    However, shame on these scammers for trying to dupe innocent people.  Somewhere there is someone who doesn't know this is crapola.

Yeah, these guys are just [***] trying to scam people.  Just tell them to [***] off.  Then have a glass of wine and laugh it off. Cheers.

"Steve Martin" with an Indian accent left two voicemail messages a few days apart.  Vague legal-sounding implied threats.  "...enforcement actions executed by US treasury..."  "...magistrate judge or a grand jury..."   Includes the "help us help you" statement.

Sincere comment: I really appreciate this web site. It's very nice to be able to verify that others have experienced the same spam/phishing attempts.

Since I blocked this number yesterday they have called on a new number 530-809-9424. Same Steve Martin that I can barely understand. I have somehow done the wrong post reduction during a surgery I performed. Since I am not a doctor I was at first worried some poor MD wasn't getting this message. Thankfully I looked here before I tried to call them back. 'Help us help you'. No thanks

These jerks are a royal pain in the ***.  I can barely understand this idiot who threatens something to do with a magistrate judge or grand jury.  Yeah, help us help you, right.

No.  This is a YMAX number (see www.phonevalidator.com), which means that the caller is using a magicJack device -- probably one that comes with 6 months or 12 months of free phone service.  These devices offer free calls to and from the US from anywhere in the world with Internet service, so your caller is probably hiding behind one of these in a country that doesn't cooperate with the US in enforcing our laws, or worse, is actively hostile towards us.

Besides, the tracking of phone numbers by caller ID has been broken ever since at least 2004.

No, it's a pity that YOU don't do anything about it.  The IRS has put out messages and warnings all over the place and on news media that feel like reporting on it.  The Treasury Department has a special line to file complaints.  And if you go to your state's Attorney General's office, they can get the necessary subpoenas to file an abuse complaint with magicJack.  Then, they can permanently disable the offending magicJack.

But YOU have to do it YOURSELF.  No one else can file these complaints for you.

I received this message on Friday Oct 24 at 1:24 PM.    "Hi this message is intended to contact you.  My name is Steve Martin and I’m calling regarding enforcement actions executed by US Treasury intended your [???] attention.  Ignoring this will be will be considered an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 909-666-5286.  Again, 909-666-5286.  I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you.  Thanks."

Got the same call,  number 909-666-5286' same story.
Does anyone from IRS or FTC check this message board?or do I need to report it.
