    This is a scam!

I just received another phone call today. I bought my car back in April 2007 and buying the extended warranty was a mistake. Obviously my 2002 is used, but I felt that if I didn't shell out the dough for the warranty I'd hate myself if the car fell apart. I got SCREWED on the price of a 15,000 mile warranty that lasted just under a year.

So a few months later I start getting these calls about renewing my warranty. The car was fine and I just hung up on the automated service. Then one day (months later) they call me again. Each time they call they say "This is your final offer to renew your warranty" (Nice sales strategy, final notice/impending doom ploy). So several months ago I decided to hear what it was all about. I was getting 'connected to the next available person' on a sunday afternoon and of course no one was in the office. OOPS! Autodialer must have been left on by some nervous rookie college grad.

I just got another phone call just now, and now I KNOW it's a scam. They called themselves something generic and probably very hard to find; "General Warranty Services, serving America one mile at a time".

I was connected with an operator who knew nothing about the service--but still asked me if I wanted to pay for it. I was insistant on more information so she transferred me to sales.

The sales guy started out nice. He let me know it covers EVERYTHING you could imagine. Trans, motor, battery, alternator, electrical, even AC! Wow. What's even better is that you can't void a warranty. Supposedly his very last customer he spoke with has a SAAB that he blew the motor on by adding an aftermarket turbo. They replaced the motor at no additional cost. The warranty supposedly covers parts, labor, and everything involved. I smell bullsh!t...SAAB? Who the hell drives a SAAB? Probably this uncreative [***].

So I repeated what he was saying and said, "So if I'm running a car with 800hp you'll replace anything that breaks?" The guy says YUP! Too good to be true! If you fall for this then you deserve to get taken. But lets play along.

They offer payment plans to finance it or if you have $2500 bucks in your pocket, you could get a discount by paying a lump sum for a 5 year plan. $2500 for a 5 year warranty that covers mods? No way!

So I called the guys bluff. I said look, I'm not going to buy anything right now. I'd like to get more literature first before I make a move. I don't mind taking your ID number and giving you 100% commission on this, but I'm not buying anything tonight. So he said my warranty is up and unfortunately it's gotta be today or never (RIGHT, just like the automated system says!).

So I said look, I'm in sales--to which he interrupted me and said he's been doing it for 15 years despite the fact that he sounds like he's 25 years old. I spoke over him--something a CUSTOMER should never have to do--and said I'm sure he's got a list of excellent rebuttals but I'm not interested unless I see it in writing.

His response, "So you're just dumb then."

So now you're going to insult customers? He's obviously such a big success that he has to be involved in a shady telemarketing company that sells a bogus service.

I didn't think to play along and waste his time and tease him with a sale only to jerk the chain back and say no. I instead hung up. I called back the number - 909-842-9104 and what does it say? This is a number used by several different businesses on any given day!

    MORE SMOKE SCREEN!

Watch out people! DON'T FALL FOR THIS CON JOB!

When I pressed the number one to speak to a representative he gave me only his first name, said he was a supervisor (when I asked to speak to one), an dsaid he'd put me on the "Do not call list" when I got really mad an dthreatened them with a lawsuit. Of course I have no expectations that this will work. There ought to be a way we can stop them!
