    Lesson Learned

Person said she was an arbitrator with Jeremy Patel and Associates and had my file. In my case she had ALL of my information and it was CORRECT. In hindsight, this may have been connected to the Equifax breach. There were so many threat tactics used on me including that I would definitely be incarcerated and go to jail for a year but if I settled for the "loan amount plus late fees" charges would be dropped. This call took at least an hour and by this time I was in such a mental state that I took the option to settle. Beware of these people. Hard lesson learned.

That was a foolish move.  What exactly, was the "lesson" you learned; to give money to any scammer who calls? Why would you settle on a possible fake debt?  Did you ask them to substantiate the debt in writing?  If I were you, I'd contact a lawyer immediately and get confirmation of this so-called debt.  Even though you "acknowledged" the debt by agreeing to pay, there may be something you can do if you haven't actually sent them any money yet.  You don't go to jail for debt except in a case of fraud.  Read these important steps from the FTC:

You need to block the call or tell "them" that.  Read here:

Contact your bank and dispute the payment.  There is no jail time for not paying a bill.

I just got the same pre-recorded call and voicemail about a pending case involving me and my social security number. Yeah, right; I've received the exact message with the same woman's voice from multiple phone numbers over the last couple of years. She also says she needs to hear from me, "or your retained attorney". Scammers.

I've had this same agressive toned black woman's voice call me from different numbers over several months now so it's a scam don't worry about it whoever is curious or afraid because of how she sounded she's just going after so many people that some fall for it.
