Fraudulent or Zombie Debt Collectors—Things to Know
If you have received a call stating:
1. You have defrauded a financial institution
2. You owe an unpaid payday loan
3. You have a warrant due to an unpaid loan
5. You will receive a court summons
6. Authorities are coming to arrest you
7. Anything similar to above,
a. Do not give them any information or verify any information for them
b. Tell them you know they are a scam operating illegally and that you are filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities
* File a complaint with the FBI on their Internet Crime webpage http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
* File a complaint with the Attorney General for the state you live in
The more information and complaints there are, the better the chance of getting these criminals to stop (or at least reduce the frequency). [abstracted from another site]
They continue to bother you, tell them you are going to the police to make a complaint of extortion. - CWG40 replies to AnnaTotal scam. Ignore them.

- KimberlyI just had this same call. Threatening me that I will be fired from my job if I didn't talk to him. He said he was from the Attorney Generals office and that there was a lawsuit filed with my name and last four of my social...which he had wrong. I hung up. He called back several times and so I just took his name Edward Marshall and his number 916-469-8685 and told him when he could find some one who spoke english to call me back. He was very RUDE and THREATENING!!!!! Hasn't called back.
- Caller: US Attorney General's office

- jrReceived message on my cellphone from a Mr. Donald Robinson(hard to figure out due to such a heavy foreign acent) saying I or my attorney needed to call back immediately regarding a case(no # given). I have no plans to call him since I suspect this is a scam trying to get money. Since I have received calls like this previously, I will do as my attorney has advised me: DO NOT CALL BACK AND DON'T GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. IF I HAPPEN TO TALK TO THIS GUY, I WILL ASK HIM TO SEND ANY INFORMATION IN WRITING AS REQUIRED. Chances are I won't get anything since there is no case in the first place.

- Julia| 1 replyEdward Marshall called me today stating that i was having criminal charges against my name and social security number. I asked him that where was he calling from and he said that he was calling for a third party. i told him he was harassing me and i didn't know where he was calling from and he said "well if you would shut your mouth and listen you would know" I told him he was being rude and hung up. He calls back and says "why are you hanging up". I told him i did not know what he was talking about and to send me something in writing and he said "i already did" he said good luck going to jail and getting fired.

- StephI recently applied for a loan and this number called me today, too, demanding that if I did not call the "State General Attorney's Office" that he would continue to call me at my work place. I called the number back, let them know I work for an attorney's office (which I do) and said if they are really from the "State General Attorney's Office" they should know it is against the law to threaten to call me at my place of employment. Needless to say, the heavy accent man hung up on me.

- Sarah BachmeierThis number was calling me non stop and i kept ignoring it. I finally answered to yell at this person for harassing me and when I answered the guy was like why do you keep hanging up the phone Sarah you have to take care of this matter. The man had a strong middle eastern accent could barely understand him. He stated he was a paralegal, couldn't tell with who, and I had legal action under my SSN. They refused to tell me what it was in regards to or let me speak with someone else. I informed them I have nothing of the sort against me to my knowledge, no correspondence of any kind was ever sent to me. I was instructed to call back today to speak to the main lawyer if I refused to call them back this would be out of their hands. I called the number back 5 minutes later and it was a Magic Jack voice mail system. I am calling the CA attorney general later this morning to report as others have.
