I just now received a call from this number. the caller ID said 'ST OF CA FTB', whatever that is!

he asked for my social security number and I have given by mistake

This number is from CA Franchise Board.  State Tax Board.

They asked for social security # suspicious.

Rec'd call from this #, they said they were
Franchise tax board and  asked for all my personal info, when I tried to call them back, phone is not answered. This makes me  very suspicious.

I called the Franchise Tax Board to discuss a notice I received. The wait time was long, so I opted for a call back hold and this is the number that called back. Pretty sure it's legitimate.

I did get worried about giving out my info, but how else would they answer specific Tax questions?

Came up as CALIFORNIA FRNC on caller I'd saying it was a requested callback but it didn't give any details that suggested it wasn't random, such as when I request a call back from most businesses it has me record my name in my voice so I know it it legitimate.
