I call Bull replies to IPAYMYBILLS
I'm calling [***],  because my husband and I always make payment arrangements with the Dr or hospital and we Always make timely payments,  but several times have been turned over to works and lentz at the end of the year.  My hypothesis is that the hospital wants to get things settled by years end even if that means sending me to collections. I have been lucky enough to make the same arrangements with W&L,  but don't say we all are in the situation because we don't pay.  Because I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.  Especially when a lot of these bills are over a thousand bucks. Yeah,  I'll just pay that all at once.  Stfu.  I'm gonna feed my kid first and send you what I can.  And I still got sent to collections. Karma is a [***].  Continue to think this way.... It will happen to you one day.

Just read in a book that the statue of limitations for a debt is 3 years in OK.  So they shouldn't be collecting on it.

You can be sued for medical bills I have been several times without even knowing until my credit report was ran.

    Seriously? replies to amber
Do you really expect us to believe that?  You were sued  and didn't know it until you saw your credit report?  Please, you had to have been properly served.  If you weren't, then there is no valid judgement.
And then we get to the elephant in the room, why are you here and why are you replying to a 2 year old post?

I received a call from an Elaina from 918-592-2420 ext. 284. She didn't leave who she was with or what this concerns.  I do not call people back unless I know who I am calling back or who the company is that I'm calling.

Yeah, I got a call from that number saying that they wanted to "talk to my father", when I'm living with my sister currently. I asked them what it was for and the guy said it was over a personal matter.
I see it as you are using my phone, my battery, my number so you do NOT just call it for your own personal uses for someone else without telling me what's so important that you had to use MY phone.
If it's so important, then you call the person you are trying to get a hold of, not me. It's disrespectful. And yes, you could say it's "against their policy" to give out info, and its probably true; and it's good they don't just give out info to just anyone, but my dad told me what it was for and it was not that much of a personal matter. He could've easily just said it was about billing and ended it at that. With that, I likely would've let the guy use my phone. (i happened to be over there at the time since we live not far from him).
Oh, and not only that, but I asked if I could take a message, still trying to be the nice person, and he gave me a number for my dad to call. Just for being disrespectful towards me by expect me to submissively use my phone. I didn't write down the number he gave me to give to my dad. That guy can take that number and shove it up his fanny.

Oh really? did they "send it to a collection agency" or did the collection agency BUY the debt?  It's all a big scam.

And another thing is patients do try and pay their bills...when they call and try to make a payment that they can AFFORD they are told it is NOT ENOUGH.  They say they require you pay an outrageous minimum payment. so what happens they don't pay that amount because they don't have it.  so they then get turned over to you leeches who they DO NOT OWE ANY KIND OF MONEY TO!!!

Here's a tip for you on this. Most all hospitals have charity programs. You have to ask for their paperwork on those. They can also help short term or long term and even help with the patients part if there is insurance involved.. The key is if they did not tell you about it, to ask for the paperwork to fill out.

In addition to reading CWG40's post on page 5 and "Tamianth's reply to you, also be aware that you have rights once this is turned over to a debt collector.  Do yourself a favor and learn what these rights are.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

The only reason they were calling your phone is because your father must have given that number as a good contact number to reach him at. The Works & Lentz employee's don't know that the number that YOUR FATHER gave them is wrong until they call it. If you don't want to receive calls for your father then just be polite about it and tell them to please remove your phone number as a bad contact number for him. There's no reason to be immature about it to them just because they won't break their policies for you.

Has anyone had success negotiating a bill and settling for a lower amount with them? I make payments every month, and they have always been polite. I would just really like to get this mess off of my credit.

If they told you it would come off your credit record, they lied.  It is on there for seven years.  further, this outfit seems to have a habit of violating collection laws, so you might not even be paying the correct debt collector, assuming this bill is even real.  You would do well to read the rest of the posts in this thread.  That way you will learn how not to become a victim to these crooks.

Did they provide this letter in the beginning as required by law?  Did you avail yourself of your right to have them validate the debt and that they have the right to collect on it?  If you didn't, you would have been better off flushing any money you sent to them down the toilet.  It would have achieved the same result.
