I recieved two different calls from 925 738 0226 and 925 738 0214 recorded message said some one was tring to use my card and to call back some #. ! thought it was most likely a scam because I had cut up the card years ago and used the account only to pay a twice yearly service. then realized my bill was late . long story short someone stole my bill and got my account # and was looking for my three # code if not for that call I would not have realized something was wrong. so the bad guys are the ones who tip me off to the problem

This is what Washington Mutual does: They monitor your transactions and if something is not right they put a hold on your account and you have to call them. It's happened to me twice. First they don't call you like this number does. Second they wouldn't identify themselves as WAMU, they'd say Washington Mutual. Don't trust the call and don't give out your info and never trust anyone online that says it's ok. Call the bank direct - no one can argue the safety in that.

9257380214, thats the number that kept calling me all weekend, and I never answer calls I dont know unless they leave a message. On the fourth attept they left a message and told me that my WAMU card had been used for CASH ADVANCES in Los Angeles, Im in Washington so I knew I had to give them a call. I was scard they were a scam so I called my own credit card number found on the back of the card I've been using. They forward you straight to thier fraud department and cancel your credit card with a new issue. I am still waiting on my paper work in the mail, but identity theft is NO joke. Take care of it ASAP. THey were very helpful

Yep, Wamu fraud dept.  I went to their website before calling this number, and my online account was disabled, and gave me a number to call.

I called the number, and someone had just tried to get a $15 cash advance online (how does that work??).

Kris - I guess it is cost reduction. Automation is less expensive than a person's salary + expenses that come with it. I hate it too, but it will be the future - automation, automation, automation. If we want to talk to HUMANS, we will have to go and MEET people.
The good news: I was just called by this number and checked it out - it is legit - it is actually WAMU's fraud dept.

Called me at 8:15am EST from a California number which would be 4:15am PST. When I called the number back, a recording asks for my credit card information. No "press 0 for operator", just "enter your credit card number now". They need to identify who they are before I give my credit card number to a recording. When someone finally answered, it was India. The Indian woman (who I couldn't understand) said something about locking my account. I responded my account wasn't locked because I used the card last night. I also voiced my concern that they would lock my account without first contacting me as other banks do. I know my credit card and bank balances at all times, when I put my card down at a restaurant, and a waiter comes back and says declined (this happened once due to a locked card incident) it is incredibly embarrassing, especially as I was dining with business associates at the time. The problem was traced to them having my phone number wrong at the time, they did try to call me first to question a transaction. The crazy part about this is that WaMu locked my account for using their card on PayPal. PayPal, the site that verifies your card against your billing address. I told the Indian woman that PayPal is one of the most trusted payment services in the world. I told her she could even use it in India. She said she didn't know anything about it. PayPal apparently "sounds" suspicious to her.

My advice to people who keep leaving their credit cards around and having them stolen: Only keep 1 or 2 cards with you in your wallet or purse. Use them all the time, and keep paying them down (which helps your credit rating). Keep the rest of the cards safe in a Bi-fold multiple card wallet. You need a wallet that has one space for each card. This wallet stays at home in a secure location. If you need to take a different card with you, take the 1 out of your daily wallet and replace it with one from the home wallet. People who travel around daily with 20 credit cards falling out of their pockets are the reason everyone is so paranoid about identity theft.

CALL THEM BACK. This is N-O-T a telemarketer or a fraudulent-type of call period. They are checking to see if a recent credit card purchase you made is valid. There is a step-by-step menu (don't have to talk to live person) that allows you to know there was a transaction. They ask if you authorized or made the transaction. This is to let you know that if you DIDN'T make the transaction that some jerk is trying or did use your card. PLEASE .... call them back. I just experienced this myself. It was my Visa card's transaction. They just want to watch for people who may be using your card WITHOUT your permission. Cheers.

Got a message to call WAMU fraud department at 866-565-5785 regarding my WAMU mastercard.  I don't have a credit card with them.  Called customer service from their website to see what the deal was, and was transferred to their fraud department that way.  Well, it was not a credit card, but my WAMU ATM card that was compromised.  Someone across the country was trying at various locations to take money out of my account with my ATM number.  My ATM card is used rarely and discreetly, and was home safe with me, no idea how this information was taken.  It's not even a debit card.  Thankfully, all those ATM withdrawal attempts were declined.  I'll be getting a new card.  Thank you, Washington Mutual.
