- Wes Borgen| 4 repliesclaims to be department of legal affairs for us treasury. he speaks very poor English could barely understand him. asked to have him mail me what he was talking about in writing. not sure but it might be a scam.
- Caller: US Treasury
- Rob replies to Wes BorgenI just got a call from the same person. I believe they want you to call the number that they give you to get a fee added onto your phone bill. I am researching this.
- RobPlease check into this phone number. I believe this is a scam.
- Caller: Dept of Legal Affairs
- Sar replies to Wes BorgenI just received the same call. Claiming to be in the legal affairs department at the us treasury. Can barely understand him.
- JuliaI received a similar call. "Larry Rogers" claimed to be an office of the Dept of Legal Affairs from the US Treasury. He had a heavy accent. He told me that there due to an issue with my 2011 Tax Return, he is issuing an arrest warrant for me. When I told him, go ahead, he hung up on me. I called him back, and he asked me, 'why are you calling me back?' I played along and told him that he hung up on me. He said that he already served me my warrant and he was done. I asked him what I could do to resolve the situation, and he transferred me to another 'officer,' who stated that the sheriffs would be at my address in 45 minutes to serve me my warrant, but that he would try to call the sheriff to stop them. Then he hung up on me.
- KarolA person with very poor English called both our home phone and my cell phone to tell me that the US Dept of Treasury was going to file legal action against me from this 951 number. The really strange thing is that we just got e-mails from H&R block indicating that our returns had been submitted which is legit b/c we went and had them done there on Saturday. The insteresting part is that the tax preparer used both of the phone numbers, that this person tried calling, on our return information. Wonder if there is a leak??
- Hovo| 1 replyI just received the same call. Claiming to be in the legal affairs department at the us treasury. Can barely understand him.he requested that I call 951-286-3938, and SPEAK WITH Jack Williams, I guess there is warrant for my arrest,
- Caller: US Treasury
- Carri replies to HovoMy husband just call a call like this but they did not say they were from the Us Treasury on the answering machine. John Davis is who supposedly called us. I could hardly understand what he was saying.
- GSame number, same MO: 'Legal Affairs' at the 'Department of Treasury'.. call back at 951-286-3938 and ask for agent 'Keith Nelson'. The person making the call was very thickly accented and said his name was José Azuelure. We had a similar call like this a week or so ago except they said they were the IRS and police would come to arrest us. Good anti-scam information on the IRS website [http://www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts].
- Caller: US Treasury Department
- Sam| 1 replyI just came home to two messages from a Ryan Miller stating he was from the Department of legal affairs, his accent was so heavy I could barely understand but I was told to have my lawyer present or have my lawyer make the call back. I was thankful to see, when I googled this that this was most likely a scam. I couldn't think of anything I'd possibly could have done...the # he gave was 951-286-3938. I am posting this in hopes that someone can stop this person or people, what they are doing is wrong. It's not ok to scare and scam people.
- Caller: Department of Legal Affairs
- LAM| 1 replyReceived strange call....foreign voice.....telling that the US TREASURY was calling and that we needed legal representation. ??? Call came at night - very strange. Anybody think this may be connected to the Oil Workers strike/harassment??? Seems very strange - and stupid.
- Mike-in-MD replies to LAMNot at all connected with the oil workers strike. Just another number used by the foreign scammers pretending to be from the IRS. Just ignore and block the number if you can. Don't talk to them or call them back. You can report the scam here:
http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml - MI received a call from this number with a message left on my voicemail. Claimed to be from the department of legal affairs -could barely understand him. Ryan Miller and to have my attorney call back. Awful scam.
- PeteFor me, his name was Mark Johnson. But the scam was exactly the same. He told me to call the number to find out what the legal action was and what I could do about it. I was to talk to an Officer Wilson. I told him I would call right away. As I was hanging up I told him to bite me.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail. - kathyReceived the same type of call as previous posts. The person was difficult to understand and said he was calling from US Treasury. He said I could have an attorney call. I did not call back. It is bogus and I do not owe any taxes.
- AdamReceived same call from Ryan miller legal affairs department. Said if called back to have attorney present or could be in legal mess... But later said looked forward to taking to us.
