Claimed to be from Verizon as my "account has changed" -- No idea what they are talking about. Sounds like a scam.

Unless you are a shill, you should be telling this person NOT to give any payment information to the caller, but instead to call Verizon Wireless directly from their cell phone after hanging up from the call they've received.

ANYONE can call you from ANY NUMBER and pretend to be ANYONE ELSE. This might be a valid VZW number, but the caller could be in India just waiting to snatch your cash. If you fall for it and give them a credit card or other financial account information, thinking you are making a past-due payment, you can probably kiss your cash goodbye.

There are far too many scam calls that originate like this. Never give out financial information to anyone who calls you. Always call them back, not from any number they give you, but from a number on your actual bill or the back of your credit card.
