Recorded message asking me to press 1 for information on eliminating my credit card debt under "the new Bank Stress Test Act".

Seeing as Google doesn't bring up any such Canadian legislation, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's a scam.

Protect yourself.  When you call these idiots to see who they are when they don't answer calls and don't leave a message.  Before you call them, most providers have a simple code you use that will block your caller ID.  It is usually *67 (star67).  You just pick up your phone and when you hear your dialtone, press *67 and you will hear a confirming beep beep tone.  Then just dial the number and they will not be able to see your caller ID.  This is not permanent, you have to do it for each call where you want to block the number.  Works like a charm.  Don't use it as a prank or to do something illegal though as the called party can use *57 and the provider will have the information that they can turn over to the police, your called party won't get access to the info but you don't want to give yourself away to the police if you are doing something wrong or stupid, lol.  Good luck

babs   ,   not  all  you  mentioned  actually  works...........( rarely  does  )

firstly  ,   *  67   does not   always   work  to  block your  number...so  keep  this in  mind !!!

    ( it's    only  70  %  usefull  )

not  too  sure  what  you  mean  by  *57  ????    you  better  educate  yourself  on  how  this  option  actually  works !!!!     * 57  is  "  call trace".................records     are ONLY  released  by  a  COURT  ORDER............so a  useless  option  unless   you  want  a legal battle  involving    court  orders  !!!

    hpe  this  helps

I am private, unlisted, unpublished and I am paying for it every month to Mr.Telus...company
Breach of Trust.....Obviously, they do not care a bit about their customers as long as they can make
a lots of $$$$$$. They are even continue charging  people, after they have passed away, so dishonest and disgusting! No respect.
Eventually, I will take legal action against them, this has to stop! They can challenge me in the court
of justice. I am complaining to the head office in Vancouver, B.C. long enough with no response
    what so ever.
Beautiful day to all of the nice and honest people on this planet Earth ;)

We're on the National Do Not Call Directory and our phone number is unlisted.  When will our government get the idea that they need to ban the "auto dial" computers that just go through and make phone calls where the telemarketers don't even know who they're calling, as these systems pay absolutely NO attention to the Do Not Call lists?

Chris, please get your facts straight.

I have been working in the telecom business as senior technician for over 40 years and your *67 myth is WRONG.

FACT: CALL BLOCK (*67) works 100% of the time worldwide for those telco companies that have it implemented. Anyone that told you otherwise is mis-informed or a journeyman repair guy.

FACT: CALL TRACE (*57) works 100% of the time worldwide for those telco companies that have it implemented. Unlike in the movies which is false, it is instantaneous, and DOES NOT need 2-3 minutes to trace. That time limit is only for suspense in the movies
Women's and children's shelters and other such agencies requiring privacy have their numbers permanently blocked for safety reasons.

You ARE correct on the CALL TRACE records and that they will only be released under court order to the authorities. CALL TRACE should only be used for harassing and threatening calls and you MUST follow through with placing charges against the callers for it to be successful and worth the effort. No documented Canadian case has the victim (receiver of bad calls) ever spend one dime of their money. ALL cases are paid for by the plaintiff (harasser).

Credit Card Scam which also mentioned the "Bank Stress Test Act".  As with first poster, I'm in Canada, so it's impossible that this is real.  Received similar call from Canadian number 226-363-3663

I received a call 954-606-5537 on 21-7-2011, I used my phone to block it (as my phone has this function), so I think there should be no more calls, but to-day I receive a call 954-606-5540 also from FLORIDA, I think they can not get through and then use another number to make this call again, whenever pick up the phone call, there has no sound.....
so I use my phone to block this number also,
    954-606-5537
    954-606-5540
I think these number should be the same user...
I really can't understand why this person like to do such things? and why there's no control for it?

Same crap diffrent day. I didnt answer ( Im wise to this) but I googled the number and you ppl out there saved my coins! Thanx!

I have also heard somewhere that some phone companies pay to use their long distance. The idea is cell phones charge long distance calls from both ends. When you answer a long distance call on a cell you pay long distance. The phone company in the US gives the telemarketers a cut of the rate they ( the phone company) charged your service provider for the long distance.

    FN PIRACY!!!!!!!

Nice federal spending mess Yanks! Karma is a #itch!

This  Telephone # is #1 on my most called list. Their # seems to change regularly but appears to  ordinate in Florida. I have heard their message and have never responded.Now. I just note the # that are display on Call Display and ignore the calls from out of area codes. Never the less, these are unwanted calls and disturb so many people.
