- Steve in MACaller ID says "Acton MA". I was in a confrontational mood, so I picked up.
There was a recorded message about high electric rates. The line was filled with static and was all but un-listenable. I have never had a poor audio line that was not a scam.
There was an option to lower my rates, I selected it. The audio quality went from horrible to bad. He asked: my name, how big my electric bill was, who my energy provider was, if I received any discounts (these are associated with income so I am assuming he was trying to infer this), what type of house, and how much sun my house received. I provided incorrect answers to every query!!
He then told me they are involved with solar panels. Is this the solar panel scam?
Then he wanted to know about my credit. I asked him why he needed to know. He said that solar panels were expensive!!! I asked him his company's name. He gave me a description of a government community energy outreach program. I pressed again. He said it had no name. He then asked for my zip code. I hung up.
Spoofed ID. A government program with no name or company connections. A government program with a frugal phone system. Asking for credit info WAY, WAY too early. Conclusion: SCAM. Looks like they were phishing for information. Have fun with the lies that I provided.- Caller: ???
- MarieCaller ID ACTON MA. Thank you, Steve and 800notes, for flagging this SCAM.
- Caller: ACTON MA
- sueThank you for providing this info! I didn't pick up they just called :) Time to block that number
- Caller: Acton MA
- Curt in MACalled, I did not answer, caller left no message.
- Max| 1 replyThey had called before and I blocked the number. This time the number was one digit higher so blocking didn't work.
- Steve in MA replies to MaxI have received a bunch of energy scams from 978-881-097x. They probably all came from the same scammer.
- TimSame scam that Steve in MA mentioned. Got these calls from 978-881-0975, -0974, -0962, -0879 phone numbers. These scammers seem to change their phone number after everyone blocks their current phone number.
- Paul-CI received a call from this telephone number. During the time my telephone system's auto attendant was processing the call, I heard verbiage about lowering my electric bill.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Andrew_M_GarlandI let it ring through to voicemail. Message from a recorded female voice offering to help me avoid a 15% electric rate increase.

- KenWe got a call from this number today at 12:58 pm, and it was blocked by our call blocker. The caller ID was ACTON MA. We have gotten the same call from 978-881-0962, 978-881-0965, and 978-881-0972. For this reason our call blocker blocks all calls from area code 978 with the 881 exchange (978-881-XXXX). I highly recommend such a device to avoid these nuisances.
- BostonHolly| 1 replyObviously, if there is no name on Caller ID, only a town and a state listed, it's a spoofed caller which means it's a scam. When, in the history of Caller ID , has there ever been a listing of only a town and a state that was a legitimate caller ? The whole point of Caller ID was to be able to identify the name of the caller. The biggest frustration was when cell phone numbers started showing on ID because they sometimes list as "Out of Area" , sometimes as "unavailable" but usually, now , as "Cell Phone [State ID] . Howver, even then they have often been spoofed calls. When it's a call you've been waiting for but you're not sure, let it go to voice mail, if your caller respects your time and privacy they will leave a message (or they'll see you and will complain that you never answer your phone) and then *you* can save their number in your Contacts and enter their name in place of town/state, cell phone town/state, etc. -- One&Done. Otherwise, bc I am a dinosaur and use a landline, I refuse to take calls unless I am certain that I know who belongs to that number & it's their first call to me. Living in Boston, duh, I receive a minimum of 30 spoofed calls/wk. fm. Cambridge MA , Boston MA - the callers never leave a message and every call is now blocked.
- Caller: SCAM spoofed thru Acton MA
- Call type: Telemarketer
- qwerty replies to BostonHollyWhile plenty of scam callers do spoof caller ID and use city and state as the "name", you are incorrect to say that ALL calls listing city and state are both spoofed and scammers. My cell phone shows up on caller ID with the "name" as my city and state, and the number is neither spoofed nor am I a scammer.
- AllieI did not pick up. I did not recognize the number.
- Caller: do not know
- Call type: Telemarketer
- TrixieI got a call from this number Acton MA but the voicemail said "Congratulations, you can get up to $1,000 deposited into your account as early as ........" It's blocked. I don't answer calls that I don't recognize or know the caller.
- HeatherAnswered the phone thinking it might be work-related. As soon as I answered, there was a beep and the call disconnected.
- HahaCall was identified as Scam or Fraud from my carrier. Not answered and no message was left. And Blocked!
- David HopkinsI get the same line of BS from the same recorded message from different numbers after I ask to be taken off there list if the provider doesn't do anything I will
