Probably from the same folks who use -0968.
They called, I did not answer, they hung up without a message.

Received a call from this telephone number. No message was left. I called the number back. . . adding the *67 prefix. . . and reached a very short recording that said to press 9 to be put on the DNC list.

On a whim, I called some adjacent telephone numbers and reached the same recording. It appears that a telemarketer owns a block of these telephone numbers.

This number called and left a message concerning a 14% rate increase in my electric bill and to call them. Did the, "press one to talk to a representative and press 2 if you do not wish to receive further calls" thing. Blocked. This will be the fourth number blocked from Acton, MA.

You are lucky you didn't get the message:  WE got a rambling TOTALLY ILLEGAL pre-recorded msg (that of course starts half way through) stating to be 'eligible' for a 'government program' to 'permanently reduce' our electric bill, we have to be spening more than $150 monthly on electricity.  We don't.  BUT in order to 'be removed' from their calling (which they have NO RIGHT to be doing in the FIRST place) we have to press '3'.  Of course we don't because that will only get us MORE calls.

THIRD spam call of the day and second one that was a 'new' as yet unblocked #.  The other new one was 508-227-4856.  Also got one (already blocked) from "HUNTINGTON B, CA" at 657-464-2623.

ALL THREE were the "Switch Your Electric Provider/Buy Solar Panels over the phone from a Complete Foreign Stranger Site/Sight Unseen, Unmeasured and Unevaluated for solar suitability (we've had that done) with a CREDIT CARD" PHISHING SCAM.  Just a variation on previous years' "Lower Your Interest Rates" Scam.

Just another RUSE to SEPARATE Americans from their hard earned money, likely perpetrated by some UBER-RICH One-Percenter AMERICANS hiding behind foreign call centers to protect them from the LAWS.

    >>>PAUL_C Whatever you do, never call back and respond to their recorded prompts!!! Through a friend who works for a communications company, these scammers can connect your call to an out of country phone number and guess who gets charged?? YOU!!  Block the numbers that are annoyance calls and forget about them :)

I typically don't press any buttons when calling back. It is more of a "what kind of response will I get" fact finding thing.

I worked as a Central Office technician for 23 years (before being laid-off) so I do understand what your friend is saying. :o)

Also, pressing *67 and *70 does not guarantee anonymity, unless the number you are calling is a regular residential phone.    Certain businesses and phone exchanges (especially those of police departments and also 8xx area codes) can see your caller ID no matter which prefix you use.    So, like Cookie said earlier, don't humor the telemarketing bozos by letting them know you returned the call... even if it was just for laughs.   All this does is tell them that your phone number is active.

Calls originating on standard POTS lines (residential or commercial) to non-TFNs will not display an originating telephone number if *67/*70 is pressed prior to the actual telephone number. That might not be the case for calls originating on dedicated T1 circuits or ISDN/PRI/BRI service unless arrangements are made with the provider. Also, CLECS might not offer the ID blocking.

Received another call from this telephone number. No message was left. Anonymous callback reached a Verizon Core recording saying that my call  could not be completed as dialed. Caller ID said "RSQUARED".
