He never gave me a account number or any info on me just said I owe I don't know what's going on. He called again and said the sheriff would be at my house tomorrow morning and today is that day and no one showed. I even called the civil court to see if any warrants were out for me over this and their wasn't any the lady told me that it is probely a scam. I can't believe he would try and do that it just isn't right. He needs to get caught. I could hardly understand his talking with his Indian accent...

Check your credit report for free at least every 12 months. This FTC government website: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0155-free-credit-reports
Once you get your credit report just make sure every credit account opened is something you did. If there are things on there with companies that you never opened credit accounts with, then visit this: http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/feature-0014-identity-theft
Never give your address, phone, credit card, or social security number over the phone unless you are POSITIVE you know who they are. And if they sound official, still tell them to mail you information to the address THEY have on file, don't tell them your address. They may have your address, many of us are easy to find in the white pages. Don't take that as a confirmation of your identity. As them to tell you your Social Security number, if they can't, or have some reason they don't, that is a WARNING SIGN. If anyone is suing you or actually has a case against you, or you actually owe them money, believe me they'll find you by mail. Even then, don't put your information in writing or send any money or credit card number back by mail until you are POSITIVE the claim is real. Do whatever it takes to positively ID the people asking you for money. If they say you owe something and you don't remember, or recognize the company name, or recall doing anything they are speaking of, that is a RED LIGHT. Monitor your credit reports.- Caller: Greg Henry with Texas Attorney Generals Office

He called on a Saturday and told us that he was Greg Henry and an attorney with the Texas Attorney Generals office, that there was a check cashing issue and we owed $400. The connection was poor and very hard to understand what he was saying. I"m not sure how they get their money other than they have you call back on that line and it charges per minute? We called back from a Skype line so that may help us avoid unwanted charges? Don't know. But Google Voice has free lines too so when in doubt, get one and see if the call being made to you is real or scam.- Caller: Greg Henry with Texas Attorney Generals Office

- VanessaI couldn't understand a word this guy said. I called the number back and asked for his name and company. He said he was Jacob Miller with the IRS and that he wanted money. When I asked him how much, he said $500. I asked him if he wanted my credit card number or if I should just mail it to him in a shoebox. While I had him on the phone, I called the IRS. Their scam hotline was busy but I told him that I had the IRS on the other line and that they were very interested in speaking with him. He hung up. I did report him on the IRS scam website which is: www.tigta.gov.
