I just got a call from this number . Sounds like the same accent. He also called me by my first name . He coundn't have known that from our phone listing. I told him I wasn' here could I take a message . He said yes, Tell him to suck my !#@$ tommorow night. I responded with a cleaver retort. He said OK while trying no to laugh, which broke his accent. My last name is Smith and if i am correct we are 1 year in age apart. The guy never said anything about my computer or about owing any money. Just the volgarity. I think the 999-910-0224 is a disposable phone number. Can anyone confirm this? This could be pranksters, but how did he know my first name? It's not that common.

We recently began getting calls from this number. I was out of town and my husband took the first call. It was someone who didn't speak very good English telling us that someone had downloaded a virus on my home PC and that hackers were using my computer.  My husband just hung up the phone because he didn't know if this was a legitimate call.  They called him six more times that day and also began calling the next day.  When I returned home, I got two more calls from this number. The caller claimed he was a Windows Support Specialist and he was going to tell me what I needed to do to fix my computer.  I told him I didn't have time to do it and hung up.  I'm certain this is just some scam.

Tired of getting this call everyday and them hanging up. Then someone answered and went through the whole speel about Windows Service Center and how my computer was corrupted with a lot of virisus.  He said his name was "Marty" and his call back number is 219-232-4400. He was calling in on the number of 999-910-0224. These people are a scam and need to be stopped. Have any suggestions?

LOL I just got a call from a guy named Peter. I seen this site a few days ago as they have called a few times. I kept Peter on the line for about 30 minutes. Then told him what a sexy voice that he has. Peter didnt like that too much. He started to swear at me and call me names. I told Peter that I like it when he gets mad and his voice even sexier. Well that made him even more upset. He wanted my addy so he could come over with his friends and beat me up. He said to make sure that my mother was there and to wash her [***] out. So I gave them my address, now im 6 4 265 pounds and I have been a Soldier for the better part of my life. So I hope that they come also I live on post and the training area is rather large someone who didnt know the area could get lost rather easy out there. I wonder if Peter is going to call back? Ill keep you posted.

What can we do about his?  Did I get hacked? How can I find out if I did? This number kept showing up on my caller I.D.  Finally, I picked up and this foreign person said he was calling from Microsoft about all my error messages.  I really had been getting error messages, so I went along for a little while. He asked me to type in several things which I did.  After he kept trying to make me answer yes to his questions, and sent me to another "technician" for the second time.  After about 30 minutes, I went to a screen that told me the prices for their services. (He said I was getting the messages because I had been hacked by someone and needed my computer fixed.)  I finally said "no" and hung up after.  Then I wondered if he had been hacking me at the time and what I could do about it.

Hello, actually i just received a call from "Microsoft windows support" well this person is from India as i could understand the accent.  I played for almost an hour, when he got frustrated he started abusing me in "Hindi" one of India's many languages.  After about 10 minutes of abuse in Hindi, i said i dint understand a word of Hindi.  He then started abusing in English for another 10 minutes, then i told him well actually i do understand hindi, guess he couldnt take it any more and he hung up.  Anyway moral of the story is "Never talk to strangers"  this applies to adults as well.

    Cheers

All of the information I have been able to find so far concerning Area Code '999' leads me to the conclusion that this is not an actual, assigned Area Code tied to a geographic location. In other words, it appears that 999 become the Area Code of choice for those (organizations) that want to produce a 'spoofed' (non-genuine) phone number on the called-party's Caller-ID device.

Prior to digital voice services such as VoIP (Voice Over IP), tampering with the data that creates the Caller-ID informational display was pretty much impossible; as to so so would require access to the local telephone company's switching equipment - something a subscriber just does not have...

With VoIP equipment and service however, it is easier for a tech-savvy person with a bent toward all things 'telecom' to create or modify the Caller-ID (name & number) that goes out over the switch telephone network. Once reserved for phone companies with huge buildings full of central office equipment, the ability to manipulate Caller-ID information is now ultimately available to the common man (with some technical ability).

All of that to say that it's starting to look like some telemarketers, collections agencies as well as scammers are paying techs to program their systems to replace their REAL Caller-ID information with fake info; thus disguising their identity. Why choose the '999' Area Code...? Well, if it is truly unassigned as it appears - it's a perfect choice. I mean, would you answer a call starting with 555?

I've now gotten this call at both my home and my parents home. I'm sure I've heard many curse words in whatever languages they use! Today I asked what the name of the company he worked for was. His answer was there is no name. So, I asked why should I trust someone who works for a company with no name? He said he was calling because of the problem with Windows on my computer. I asked how he knows I use Windows. He said.... now get this because I burst up laughing in his ear..... HE WAS THE CO OF WINDOWS!!!!!!!!!! After I stopped laughing and hung up, I checked the caller id on my parents phone and this number had called 17 times in one day!!!!! So crazy. It's scary that some people will follow along and believe these people. When I was living in Arizona, I got a similar call saying that I had a warrant out for my arrest and if I didn't pay $583 immediately, someone would be showing up at my door to take me to jail. Having grown up with a Mom who works in a law office, I know not to believe ANYTHING at face value. There is a special place in hell for these people!!!!

Just started getting these calls the other day and looked it up just out of curiousity. Now that I'm seeing all the other people who have been recieving these calls I'm shocked! Can we not have it traced, is there nothing that can be done? I'm in BC, Canada, am guessing there's people here from all over North America. Are we being targeted specifically or is it random? And IS my computer being hacked because coincidentially I've been having some significant computer problems for the last couple weeks. WHAT TO DO?

"It" called us last week and asked my wife for a Visa number. Then on Saturday with the 'computer problem.' Finally, Monday morning at work with the 'computer problem.' Just another thief, probably using an IP telephony hack.

I like to take a nap in the afternoon. These people have been calling for weeks during the day and up until 7 PM at night. I don't answer anymore, I just let the answering machine pick up and they never leave a message. Too bad, because up until just now I have my cell number on my message. If they listened they would have had that.

I have finally started turning the phone in the bedroom off and putting a fan on so I don't get woken up by the phone.

My friends have my cell number and thank goodness I have yet to get a scam or phrasing call on it.

See above. I went to re-record my answering message to take my cell number off and noticed in the manual for my new Panasonic 6.0 Bluetooth portable phone set that it had call blocking. I entered this number and another that has been calling me from Texas almost as frequently (512-916-0420)

I hope this works. Too bad that you'll be forced to buy a new phone set but I think it is worth it if there's no other way to stop these calls.

I got a call from this number about a half hour ago.  Also a guy with a strong middle eastern accent.  He said he was from "computer maintenance" about an urgent problem with my computer. I said, "Oh, really?  And what kind of computer do I have."  He answered "I THINK you have a PC Windows computer."  Me: "Well, you're wrong. I have a MAC."  and I hung up.   I just got a second call.  I had to wait several seconds, then got a computer voice saying "Goodbye."
