They claimed to be from my Health Insurance. Had my birthday, address, And my primary care doctor’s name and that was it. Didn’t ask me for any other information outside of confirming my birth year, address, and doctors name. Never asked for my member ID, social, or anything. They didn’t ask me for anything other than that they “set up” a virtual visit with a nurse practitioner. When asked how I could be certain they were with anthem I was met with a “because we have Your birthday, and address.”

Claimed to be my anthem health insurance company scheduling a health assessment.  Had my birth date and full name. Asked to confirm the year.

I asked for my information and said they would set up an appointment with my provider and they disconnected

I am not an employee of Anthem BCBS, nor the company calling for them, but I have health insurance through Anthem BCBS in my state - Colorado.

I researched this issue today (as I got a call and voicemail) to let everyone know, who comes here to look, that the call(s) is(are) 100% legitimate. I thought the call sounded like a scam too, at first, but it isn't. The company calling us is Inovalon; they're partnered with Anthem BCBS. Inovalon is using an auto-dialer, which didn't ID them on my new iPhone 13 Pro. This may be why so many of us think this is a possible phishing scam.

Inovalon really is calling on behalf of our Anthem BCBS health insurance companies (Anthem may differ in name in some states). I called Anthem's Customer Service number on my insurance card to ask about the call today (and an email I got last week too). The Anthem CS agent looked into them, as she didn't know what these were about. When I gave her the phone numbers - what number the call came from and to call back, she was able to verify it all. She said Anthem gave Inovalon my contact info to get in touch about something, likely their current campaign to book a health assessment, or an annual physical, or possibly for another reason.

What I've learned since, by calling my insurance broker, is that Inovalon is calling, emailing, AND sending letters (maybe texts too?) to incentivize ALL Anthem's members in small groups or individual plans, and those who are also on our health ins. plan(s), to encourage us to, basically, just take better care of ourselves. Inovalon is also working with our care providers to help us be healthier too, in several key ways behind the scenes (e.g. reducing billing and coding errors, etc.).

Then you are telling us that absolutely 100% of every call from this phone number is legitimate that there is absolutely no way that the number can be spoofed to scam people?  I have to ask, how you can be so sure?

Seemed like a scam call. Wrong state. Didnt have much info about me. Definitely felt scammy, but then again Anthem is pretty scammy useless insurance so sometimes it's hard to tell whats "legitimate"...

Called me just now from phone number 937-453-9050.  Knew my name, birthday, family doctor, etc.  Wanted to set up an online appointment to discuss with a nurse practitioner.

I contacted Anthem BCBS number on the back of my insurance card to inquire about this and the Customer Service rep called the 937 number and did verify that this is a scheduling company who works with Anthem BCBS to do online appointments with a nurse practitioner about my health.  The company is Inovalon and is a legitimate scheduling arm of Anthem BCBS to do this for them.

It's still basically a scam. Anthem gave our info to a company to call us to book virtual appointments with a nurse even though we have a primary care physician listed. So they get you to make a virtual appointment and don't have to pay for your appointment with your actual doctor for your annual physical that is 100% covered. And I am sorry, that's a scam.

It's definitely a scam call. The voicemail left for me sounded robotic and not like a normal customer service agent. I have been a BCBS user for many years and NEVER ONCE have they called me to "set up" an "annual health assessment." Insurers don't make appointments with doctors. My guess is that the scam would've been to set you up with a fake nurse via Zoom (hey, not that different from real Zoom doctor calls anyway) then take money for that appointment. Also, wrong state. Do not call these people back or make an appointment. They should be ashamed of themselves.

They called me on Labor Day, which is bizarre. No legit health appt schedulers would call customers on a federal holiday and tell them to call back on that same federal holiday to schedule an appointment. Scammers take note!

I agree with this assessment, without having done the research, but having received what appears to be a legit letter from Anthem CO as well as voicemail. It still feels bogus, given that I just had my physical and it's the end of the calendar year so a pretty useless time for outreach. This is speculation, but I wonder if Anthem is spending this money to prevent having to provide refunds for excess profits for 2023. I am fed up with Anthem for other reasons, and switched to a different health insurance provider for next year.

They are still calling in 2026. I spoke them a few years ago and they wanted to come to my house. NO. Then 2 years ago they made unautorized changes to my plan. Told them again to stop calling me. I do not want a virtual visit from them any more than I want a stranger coming to my house the way they wanted to do in the past. I hope blocking the number will work this time

It will not stop them from calling, but it will make your phone quieter when they do call.
"Blocking" cannot stop anyone from calling your number, it only stops your phone from ringing and (usually) transfers the call to voicemail.  It also does not convey any information to the caller about their number being "blocked" nor that you do not want to be called.  The caller just assumes that by getting your voicemail, you were not available to take the call and they schedule another call for a later time.

The company "Inovalon" they claim is making these calls is a medical software company.

"Jae" may very well have been a shill working with the scammers making these phone calls that claim to be on behalf of Anthem.
