- curious replies to byronw| 1 replyYou do know what luddites did back in the 1700s right? without looking it up?
- William replies to curiousColloquial definitions change and deviate often from the original, academic meanings. He is only saying he isn't using the most modern telephony hardware/software. He hasn't said he destroyed anyone else's telephone equipment.
- BobEveryone who knows me knows I don't ever listen to any voice mails. I let it fill up......never even looking at it. So, while it is not a problem for me, it is sneaky and not a good way to do business. Maybe I should start looking at my voice mail to see who NOT to do business with.
- MzBI know most people love voicemail, but I don't ever set them up! I hate voicemail and answering machines! LOL I removed them from my life years ago! I love it! If my phone rings I know who called because I have CID on both cell/landline.
But I will be sharing this with my facebook groups and pages! Thank you for sharing, because I use 800notes and never have seen anything about it until today! - R replies to TormentingTelemarketers| 4 repliesSounds good if you have the time to follow up and execute the plan.
- TormentingTelemarketers replies to R| 3 repliesTrue, but if this is "legal", how much time/usefulness of your voicemail will you have if we do nothing? I don't feel like we can depend on the government to take care of these things in a timely way, which is why I advocate for direct action from as many individuals as possible. Call them and complain. For every voicemail. To as high up in the company as you can go. File complaints on BBB / Yelp / GoogleReviews / anything and everything. Hit them on all their social media channels. Make them hurt NOW while it's still in it's infancy. Make businesses know dipping into this is a bad business decision, and they will never do it again.
- BigA replies to TormentingTelemarketers| 2 repliesHow much does it cost the recipient when they get an 800 number call? I know it wasn't a whole lot when I had an 800 number back in the early 90's (late 80's?), but it was a per call charge.
- Anthony replies to SummerSunshine| 1 reply99% of the time, my phone is turned off anyhow, so if I turn it on and have voice mail from some idiot, I just delete them. My life does not revolve around my phone GASP!!! I get 500 minutes a month and only use 10-15 minutes total. I only bother having a cell phone in case of an emergency. If people are getting so many voice mails that it fills up their mailbox, they need to block those calls.Even my cheap cell phone offers a number block feature.
- BigA replies to AnthonyWell I guess you haven't read the thread or you simply don't understand it. There is no way to block these calls.
- TormentingTelemarketers replies to BigA| 1 replyIt's going to depend upon their provider, but I would pay about $0.02/minute for toll free calls (plus monthly fee for the number). Higher volume or other providers can get your better rates. That's only $1.20/hour. The biggest cost is going to be lost productivity due to answering all the complaints. They can't make money if they are dealing with a huge backlash of complaints. I want them to feel like they fell face-first and open-mouthed into the Bog of Eternal Stench, so they will never think about doing that again.
- BigA replies to TormentingTelemarketersThat dropped a lot since I have my 800 number. But you are right, if the calls are all going to tech support and they are overwhelmed with calls they would not be able to help the paying customers.
- RWS replies to anon-notes-616This has been going on for years
- Fed-Up-II replies to anon-notes-616| 1 replyAlthough it's been illegal, The Republican party is now pushing to allow ringless voicemail spam. See news article;

"The GOP’s leading campaign and fundraising arm, the Republican National Committee, is throwing its support behind a push that could let robocallers spam your voicemail inbox -- without your phone ever ringing. As it stands, annoying consumers (you) with robocalls currently violates the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). More specifically, the law bans any non-emergency calls made with auto-dialers, computer-generated or prerecorded voices without the 'prior express consent of the called party.' ... "
Here's the RNC filing with the FCC. Somehow they believe you want your voicemail inbox to be spammed and filled up without your permission;

Never mind that legitimate robocalls from schools, law enforcement and emergency services might not reach you if your inbox is full. These politicians feel it's more important to spam you with donation requests and political messages. .
