    I have been getting calls since Friday & I'm tired of them. I've done all I can to let him know I don't have the money. They assumed I had a credit card & I said NO! He could tell I was sick but I think he thought he was using that against me but I'm using it against him! Guess what I need to do is try & sell him my van like that one guy that tried to sell his truck. (they just tried to call twice & I'm declining the calls) they have given me a Secrect Code (In God We Trust). They just don't stop!
    Here are the two numbers; Jamaica 876-485-6741 & from Las Vegas, NV 702-347-3505. Two names;
    Michael Brown & Gerald Halligan.

    I just hung up with some guy named Bill Johnson who had a Jamaican accent who informed me that I had just won 2.5 million dollars. He wanted my email address in order to send me the information I would need to claim the money, which I didn't give him. He knew my home address so I told him to mail the info., but he said it would be quicker to email me. I said to him that if I had to give any money to receive this award then this was a scam, he insisted that it wasn't. He then proceeds to give me a phone # to call him back (507) 484-6413, that this was a legitemate company #. I told him no thanks and hung up.

    How can we catch these people? It seems impossible since we don't really know where the hell they are. This is the first time I've gotten a call like this and I immediately knew it was a scam. The people who fall for this type of scam are either elderly and don't fully understand what's going on or they are plain greedy.

    I just received a call from a man by the name of David Washington claiming to be with America Shoppers Network. Stating i Had won $250,000.00 dollars and a $5000 dollar Walmart gift Card. He gave Me the Serial Number to the check and wanted me to go to walmart and purchase a Green Dot Money Pack for $185.00 for the 1% tax i had to pay to be able to receive this Certified Check. He also asked if I would like to keep it discreet or Have the Television Station KLFY Channel 10 News be present, when i receive this prize. I was told to call this # 1-876-484-0985 once i had the Money Card,so that i could gice him the numbers off of the money card (under the grey scratch off) in order for them to put it on the check. That was the only way I could receive the check was with this money card number on the check. When i tried calling the phone number, my phone said i could not call this number. Within 5 minutes David called me back. Stating the IRS stopped him from giving me the check without having the money pack number up front. I had realized by now before even purchasing the card.(never did i purchase the card) that i was being scammed. I then sent a text to this number and he called me back and told me to f*** off and the BBB could F*** off and so could the Police. Because i told him i was reporting him to the Police, The Television Station and The Better Business Bureau. Also I am worried now because the person has my physical address. And told me i would be Sorry. So What am I suppose to do Now. Please take my advice and do not give any personal information to anyone over the phone. Anytime you win something you should never have to pay anything to be able to claim your prize.I learn the hard way.

    U.S. and Jamaica launch international task force to combat telemarketing fraud

    KINGSTON, Jamaica - U.S. and Jamaican officials announced the launch of the Project JOLT (Jamaican Operations Linked to Telemarketing) task force on Wednesday. JOLT is an ICE-led, multi-agency, international task force established to combat Jamaican based telemarketing fraud operations that prey on U.S. citizens and others.

    "The Jamaican Constabulary Force will work closely with our international partners in order to minimize and eventually eradicate the lottery scams," said JCF Commissioner Hardley Lewin. "We welcome any assistance and for our part will ensure that a calculated effort is undertaken to deal with the lottery scam."

    As the Department of Homeland Security's largest investigative agency with special cross-border immigration and customs authorities and extensive international money laundering investigative expertise, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with its 54 offices in 42 countries, has significant expertise in transnational criminal investigations.

    "Those operating telemarketing schemes prey on the vulnerabilities of others in their pursuit of wealth and power," said Scott Hatfield, ICE Operations Chief for the Caribbean and Canada. "ICE will continue to work with our partners in Jamaica as well as private U.S. firms and other U.S. federal agencies to devise plans to stop those who steal from U.S. citizens."

    "Citizens in the United States as well as those of other nations are often left destitute by these schemes," said U.S. Charge d'Affairs James T. Heg. "The telemarketing criminals respect no race, age or level of income. Anyone with a phone is vulnerable. It is the hope of the U.S. government that the collaborative tasks forces such as Project JOLT will put a stop to this pernicious crime."

    According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, consumers lose billions of dollars a year to cross-border financial crimes such as telemarketing fraud. One of the most common types of telemarketing fraud is the lottery or sweepstakes scam. These schemes typically involve fraudulent telemarketers identifying themselves as lawyers, customs officials or lottery company representatives to potential victims.

    Victims are told that they will receive a sum of money varying from thousands to millions of dollars as the result of an international lottery or sweepstakes win. The fraudsters tell the victims that in order to receive their winnings they have to pay certain advance fees such as insurance, customs duties or taxes.

    "As fraud has gone global, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has worked extensively with law enforcement partners around the world in our work to protect U.S. consumers," said Director for the Midwest Region of the FTC Steven Baker. "We look forward to joining forces with the members of Project JOLT to battle these very serious problems."

    More than 10 years ago, ICE entered into partnership with Canadian law enforcement to develop Project COLT (Center for Operations Linked to Telemarketing), an initiative aimed at cracking down on telemarketing fraud originating from Canada. Project COLT has been a tremendous success. Since its launch in 1998, the initiative has led to the recovery and return of more than $24 million to the victims of telemarketing fraud.

    U.S. partners in Project JOLT include private companies like Western Union and MoneyGram as well as federal agencies such as the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the FBI.

    My neighbour got the call today, I think she almost fell for it. Anyway it was 1-876-592-6386 and she won 5.7 million dollars and a new mercedes, all she had to do is go to CVS and buy a prepaid card for $150.00 and give them the numbers on the card so she could recieve the check along with that the news media would show up and two FBI agents to escort her to the bank with her check.

    My 86 year old neighbor got the same call ---2.5 million and a Dodge but he had to get a "green dot money pack reload card" from cvs first in order to claim this cash. I went to cvs for him to see what that card was and it's a visa card. I think they were going to rob him - how sad. The call back number seems legit but it' easy enough to day to get an 800 number and make a recording. She did have me going for a minute, I was so excited for my 86 year old neighbor. I really don't want to know what they would have done to him to get the $500 visa card out of his hand as they march him to the bank LOL These people should be arrested and most of all ashamed of themselves.

    Yes, this happened to me today.  I received a "blocked" call and the person with a HEAVY accent said his name is James McCarty and he is from the Shoppers Network and that I had just won the grand prize of $85,000.00 and a brand new mercedes E class car.  He gave me the routing number, check number, names of the attorney, the BOA agent handing over the check, the name of someone from the state of Honoluu, etc.  he said that I needed to go to the closest Longs or CVS store and get a "Green Dot Money Pack Scratch Card" in order to get my prize.  He claimed that I needed that card to show proof to the IRS when they come to my home the next day.  He also said that I needed to pay $345.00 to get this card.  I repeatedly told him that I was VERY skeptical and that i don't believe this.  He in turn kept telling me "Darling, trust me", which made me question this even more! I then looked on the web for this company, and saw all of the "scam" entries and read them to him.  There was a pause and he asked me if I really wanted this prize and I read him more replies on the web and then he hung up. This "James" person also said that he was hired by the Federal Government like everyone else is claiming above. TOTAL SCAM!!! If you receive a call like this, just read them the complaints and they will hang up.
