I also got a similar call but it had a 900-209-8488 number; same introduction and everything this post mentioned; I was also skeptical, so this caller (his name he mentions is ("Justin Bolt"), gave me a # to call him back; this is the #:  901-209-8488 -- see how those 2 #'s are nearly similar?  Said that I was a winner, among 4 others of a $2,720,000 prize of which was split 4 ways and my cut was $680,000; of which I would have to "send" them an "insurance fee" of $99, "in the form of a Postal money order" and insure that it has a tracking # and have it sent overnight delivery.  "Justin" also said that I am "guaranteed to receive that fee back  100% in addition to the $680,000".  I had further doubts when he said that once I get that money that I am "required to make a donation to my favorite charity"!   WHAT?  What kind of a company that awards prizes would "require" you to make a donation if you are one of their prize winners?!  I asked where this $99 "fee" would be sent and who gets it?  He said he'll have his "secretary" email or fax me a document stating that, so I gave him my email address (which I might regret now) and the document came in the form of MS Word, stating all that above, that I am 1 of the 4 winners who will get part of that $2.72 million in the form of a "certified" check for $680,000....gave the name of the "accountant" with his address....which was in Roxie, Mississippi.  I asked "Justin" when he called me back to see if I got that document emailed to me the phone # of his "accountant".  He gave me the number.  Here is that accountant's phone # (just in case you, too, get this call) his name also is "Isaac Nelson", #601-345-3647.  His address is 3146 Bedford Tillman Rd., Roxie, Mississippi  39661 -- you may use this also for further investigation, because now I am fuming disturbed and irate that this dipships creep even had the NERVE to call me back twice, get my email and now has my cell phone # too!  But that's just in case if I call him back on it.  I specifically told him that if I get this so-called "check" for the winnings, take it to my bank and if my bank does NOT honor that check I will come down on him so badly he won't know what hit him!  I've been called before on these scams and I'm not taking another one like that again! And now that I've seen this posting from another one who got a similar call like I just did, I am LIVID with the fact, but deep back in my mind I knew it was "too good to be true" and whenever you get that feeling or something in the back of your mind is telling you that this is too good to be true, it most likely is, esp. if they tell you to pay an "insurance fee" to "claim" your prize!  I've signed up with Publishers Clearing House for over 20 years, never won once, but I had called them once about some other scammer claiming he was from PCH, and they told me (honest scam report number they gave me) that PCH will NEVER call you if you won their prizes....they just suddenly appear at your door with the prize check!  That is their purpose, to "surprise" you, and they NEVER ask for a "fee" and they NEVER "require" you to "make a donation"!! So, PCH is a LEGITIMATE prize Control company;  but this company, American Shoppers Network, Ltd. IS a SCAMMER company!
I will CALL Mr. JUSTIN BOLT tomorrow and give him ONE PIECE OF MY MIND THAT I KNOW HE IS A SCAM FLAM AND TO TAKE ME OFF OF HIS LISTS and NEVER CALL ME AGAIN OR I WILL REPORT HIM FOR HARRASSMENT!!! I'm also calling the police, as a just in case.  I've had enough of these CRAP SCAMMERS! Hope all you do too!!

Thank you for that very informative note on what these scammers are known for and what they do; and  also how to report these scammers.  I used your info to call the FTC Consumer complaint on a scammer that called me earlier today (Feb. 11 2014) and gave them all the information I had also posted in a reply on another post of the same type of scam.  The FTC guy, Benjamin, received my info and said they'll have their lawyers and investigators check into this and the info I provided will be entered into their data base.  He said do not "engage" with this scammer again, as it adds to more his his harassment with you, so I said I will not call that scam line back nor speak to him. One thing I thought was a little "odd" talking to the FTC after I gave him my name, is that he asked me if ever served in the United States Military forces before, and I said "yes, I have, 25 years", and that was the end of that.  But they will at least have the names of that scammer, his accountant's name and phone number, and they will be investigated and I hope and pray they'll be caught with their pants off!!1

I have received a call today 2/13/2014. I almost believed it to be true until he told me to get a green dot money card for $200. I also could not find any information about them, other than scams. Beware.

I received these calls all the time this time they added something new she was going to send me 2 form that I had to fill out 1 was P14 form? to send back and the 2nd was a certificate to fill out for the IRS this was new. She asked I pay 300.00 for S & H & INS. I didn't have that much so she can you pay 1/2 150.00 now and the other half when you get the check? I said I don't believe I have to pay anything that's company policy to pay first. I said I would have to think about it. I haven't call back. She called from a 530 area code and was calling from Sac,CA. She wasn't that's 916 area code. I said I could drive up there and get it she said not possible. So it's not just 876 area codes.

The fact they asked you to PAY up front reveals it to be a scam

The cost of a call to Jamaica is higher than the cost of a call to Canada or the US. If you ring someone and they're on a mobile 'phone, you have to pay their airtime. There might also be some expensive premium numbers hidden away (+1-876-HOT-...., +1-876-WET-...., +1-876-SEX-.... and the like) in those area codes.

They're not $2425/minute (that claim is from an often-forwarded e-mail, and likely a typo for $25/minute, so don't blindly forward every e-mail which asks to "Forward this to everyone you know!!!" - please!) but they are well above domestic rates (third world countries are bad for high taxes on international calls, weak fraud control and abusive premium numbers) and are likely not included in any fixed-rate or flat-rate plan on your line.

It's best not to return unsolicited calls from unknown Caribbean or overseas numbers.

Area code 900 is a high-premium number, so is almost synonymous with scams such as overpriced 'phone sex.

    Hi,
I received  four calls today.  Three were unlisted and a few minutes ago one from Jamaica. I connected the dots and am convinced that my new car and money that I won is a scam.
    Thank you.
