I recently received a phone call from a US Marshall; at US Customs; in Las Vegas Nevada, working for Global International with a wonderful prize they wanted to send to me via UPS delivery service. The phone call was from area code 187-635-xxxx. The Area code 187 is a phony area codes because AC codes start above 200. Please reply about area codes below 200 and what if ever will they be used?

Funny how that area code was '187'. I wish these scammers would just take a clue from their own FAKE area code and '187' themselves so I can get back to enjoying dinner with my family.

To Dan - most country codes are 3-digit values. Even the US is 3-digit : it's '+001'. We simply
note just the '1' in front of our numbers. to see which area the phone call is originating from within US, you can use this website to identify the area code value : http://www.areacodedownload.com/
If you're looking for International calls, use this site : http://countrycode.org/
I use these when I get a phone number (non-tollfree numbers of course) and want to know where it originated from.
    Hope this will helps others!

I believe it was a call from Jamaica but your phone did not display the last digit. Their NANP area code is 1 (876) + 7 digit phone number.

It is most like a spoofed area code and number. Google this--- Spoofing Phone Numbers,
    Call Spoofing,

It is something that is relatively new, you can access thru the internet.
You can make a call from your home and make  ANY number you want
show on the recipient's caller i.d.
I recently read on the internet  where a bomb threat was made to a police dept.
and the person that made the prank threat spoofed their neighbors phone number
to appear on the police call id system. Next it said the police were raiding the
neighbors home , during dinner time-- they were at the dinner table.
NOT FUNNY. The people that create ways to do this crap  are sick.

Area codes below 200 are not legit or legally assigned area codes.
You can search or look up area codes here :

    Hope this helps --

My mother has gotten numerous calls from Jamaica offering millions and a Mercedes.  When I called (due to my mother's promptings) the person answering the phone had a Jamaican accent, there were kids creaming in the background, which was a dead give-away that it was a scam.  Not only that, he stated we needed to Western Union Gram money right now and we can find a Western Union office at WalMart.  When I told him we did not have a car (lie) he stated I needed to get a taxi cab right away.  So far, it has been mostly men.  Do these MEN not know that they are the ones that start to look like IDIOTS?
