800Notes
- yef replies to ErinYou can put a phone number or any key words in the 800notes search box. I have had that direct me to number threads and forum threads, depending on relevance to my entry.
- Erin replies to B-Edwards| 5 repliesFor instance, when I go into forums, into the Phishing and Scam calls, I want to be able to search for a topic that is specific: for instance, these google scam listing calls. (Because I get a ton of those daily). Instead of browsing through all the titles, I want to just search for and find that particular topic. I have tried searching text instead of a phone number from the main page, but get tossed out to the internet instead.
- Kat* replies to ErinThat's odd. I just typed "Google Scam" in the search box and it took me to a list of several pages mentioning that scam - right here on 800 notes. Try scrolling down the page.
- MikeHuntleton replies to ErinTopics are created by individual people and there is no "format" to search specifically for. Use Key words and phrases to narrow your search.
A quick search of "google scam listing calls" from the main page gave me 3 results to begin with. - B-Edwards replies to Erin| 1 replyOK - I see what you are after. I seem to remember years ago the site search feature was not well tuned for text searches, but that has changed. A word/text search from the Search box at the top of the main page should work just fine.
Search ONLY forum topics is another matter, let me think about that and try some things. I don't see a Search box for only forum pages. You might try sending a Contact Us to admin and see if there is a way to do that. https://800notes.com/contactUs/
Admin gets pretty busy, but it is worth a try.

I can't see how or why you might be kicked from the site by trying to search for text. I have not heard that one before. When you say "Tossed to the internet" does that mean you are kicked from the 800notes site altogether? What page do you end up on when that happens?
I'm not saying it does not happen, only that I not heard that before - and over the years there have been some interesting glitches - just not that one. Depending on what page you end up on, I am wondering about a browser or antivirus issue. You might try another browser just for a hoot.
One work-around is to start a forum topic that specifically addresses you question, and see if you get info or links you need. You have to realize that sometimes Admin will remove dupe topics so starting treads is not always the best way to go.
I recommend you register. Other regular registered users are more likely to interact, and registered names can't be hi-jacked by trolls. There are always trolls who will happily copy an registered name in order to be jerks. When you register you can post your own bichen avatar, and that has to worth something. - B-Edwards replies to ErinPS - If you were searching for info on Google SEO scams, starting a new topic in the forum may not pay off. To the regulars here, Google SEO scams are a known dog (a dog you see every day, that is predicable, commonplace and sort of boring.)
We all know that 90% of the time those calls are from spoofed numbers so that blocking will not work. They use Neighbor Spoofing to trick people into answering. The scams can be either phishing or out-and-out demands for payment (bait and switch) type. If the scams are run from outside the US, finding the scammers is pretty much impossible for the average person. Some do get busted from time to time, but not as often as they should.
Stay tuned, I may have a couple of other ideas for you on searching later tonight or tomorrow. - MikeHuntleton replies to B-Edwards
Heres a method that should bring any "Forum topics" first in a search, but won't prevent numbered threads from also displaying afterwards.Quote:Search ONLY forum topics is another matter, let me think about that and try some things
Type Forum: then the keyword/phrases after it.
This should give ....800notes.com/forum/...... in the relevant topic threads first in the search results.
Example: Forum: google scam or Forum: Social Security
Typing in the Forum Specific Category will give the results of that category first too.
Example: Telemarketing calls: Caller ID or Everything else: spoofing - old space cadeti simply bookmarked 800notes.com. easy peasy. type in that phone number and you're good-to-go. when the scammers scam, whom do we call?!.... scam busters at 800notes.com......
