Received call for $25.00-$30.00; informed them that I could send them $20.00, was transferred to another person who asked for my credit card number, told them that was never going to happen, so then they ask could I include $5.00 for stamp and paper, which wasn’t going to happen either, that set up my alarm, so I decided to check out there address, 6650 W State St. Wauwatosa Wi, they won’t be receiving anything from me!

Here's another one: Veteran Police Association. They just called me today. I don't think they're connected to The Police Officers Support Association (except in spirit). Interestingly, this organization is a 501(c)3, which means it's officially a charity rather than a PAC, which would be a 501(c)5, but that doesn't mean the funds are going anywhere they'll benefit anyone other than the people of the Veteran Police Association themselves. Consumer reviews on the BBB web site give them 1 star out of 5. Can anyone guess what rating the BBB gives them? (I'll bet you can!)

A PAC should be qualified as a 527 organization.  This designation seems to be different as it would be, in this case, a labor organization.

I get these calls every now and then. It is like panhandling by phone.

How can you tell if they are legit and for real? you can't. If in doubt don't.

One way is to get the exact name of the "charity" and then look that up on one of the charity review sites like Charity Navigator. There are a few such sites. In general, the more questions ask, you will find the scammers just hangup on you. Even pressing for a name and location is enough to get them to cut the call. I would say about 95% of the calls reported here are scams, if that is any help.

I've noticed this being the case with some of the recent robocalls I've received where I chose to speak to an operator to see what information I can get for my records. Asking, "What company did you say you're from?" has led to an immediate disconnect in response when it would normally give me some sort of company name or initials. Scammers are getting smarter, so it's time to adapt again.

I NEVER give information or money to anybody who calls ME.
