Has anyone started receiving calls from different 800 numbers with no name on the caller ID? The number shows up, but not the name. Started happening a couple weeks ago. I never answer calls from unfamiliar numbers. Whoever keeps calling has yet to leave a message. I think all of the numbers are spoofed.

OMG!  This just started happening to me too - in 1998!  Freaky, right? I am starting to think someone (or someTHING) is behind this because it is like the calls are made by some infernal machine that replicates human actions!

Have you checked the individual number threads that correspond to the numbers that are calling you? Not really sure how much use this forum thread is but I bet it attracts a whole lot of troll posts.

Usually with the 800#s that I get it will say something like "Toll Free" but I have received ones with only a check mark showing. Ive been getting calls that only say "INCOMING CALL" with no number showing at all. THOSE concern me. You can't go after them.

The thing we have to remember is that the name tag portion (CNAM) varies by region and by how a given call is routed. The caller cannot directly manipulate what it says. For example, I control a number which has returned a generic place name in one state and the name of a defunct business in another. (... a real zinger of a name, too, made me jealous)

Agreeing with prior responses, you don't have much for a traffic pattern to draw any inferences, and you should start mining the phone number threads and/or adding to them. You'll also have to bother yourself to answer these if you want solid intel. Autodialers usually seek an excuse to quickly abandon unproductive calls. Your ignoring the rings only helps the nuisance call center run more efficiently.

Yes that's true. It also depends upon your telephone provider. With Verizon my phone can say "Potential Spam" but with my Spectrum phone it will just give a series of numbers... V21325.....

Birdy, Birdy, Bless your heart!  Twenty-two years of hell.  Visit your couch, feet up, cool compress, cleansing breath, all will be well.  Oh, a call blocker might help.  All the best.

Hi Birdy! The space where the name is is blank. I have never experienced that before. Usually there's something there, whether it's letters or numbers. That was the point of my message.
BTW, I just LOVE your wonderful sarcasm! You should take your amateur act on the road. Maybe somebody will take pity on you and throw a few coins your way. Have a fantastic day, now! Toodles!

you never graduated grade school, otherwise you would have a whole lot better reading comprehension. Maybe you are simply too lazy? I doubt you have "better ways to spend my time" considering there are so many people who now have tons of time so figure out what to do with.

That was part of my unspecified meaning. Typically the call recipient's carrier inserts CNAM between rings one and two. It can be fetched from a database not controlled by the carrier, for a tiny and variable access "dip" fee. The databases may not all agree on listings and a carrier might be too cheap to dip, substituting a useless placeholder like a city name or "unavailable". In that sense the name tag can be an unreliable informant even before we get to discussion of spoofing.

No, I understand. I was just adding a little about different CIDs displays for different carriers. You have far more knowledge in the background workings of these calls than I.

Here’s something new to me. I got a call that rang the usual 4 times before it went to the answering device, but all it ever said was incoming call. When I looked through missed calls, I didn’t have any that day. Was just wondering if this was something new or just ATT equipment failure. I think probably the latter.
