American Veterans Honor Fund scam
- Sir Bedevere| 2 repliesYes, it's just another one of these scam charities pretending to support veterans (or firefighters, or police or etc.). But why do I find these creeps even more annoying when they use obvious sound board systems? I mean really obvious: "Hi, this is Steve from the American Veterans Honor Fund. Are you ready for active duty? Ha, ha, ha!" repeated several times during the course of a less-than-1-minute phone call.
I'll suppose I'll put post in a number thread under the number they spoofed, but we all know they'll never use that number again.
Their web site is www.americanveteranshonorfund.com, hosted on Google Cloud services. Domain name name registered with Godaddy. Anonymized registration, of course (what legitimate charity or PAC would do that?)
Oh, and they called at 8:15 this morning, which is probably why I'm grumpier than usual about it. Carry on with your day... - Resident47 replies to Sir BedevereThe whole tilt of the hero charity industry toward soundboards is annoying, no shame in that feeling. We could be less chafed (potentially) by this one recurring cast of characters if they'd only knock off the lame joke openers and forced chuckling. These greaseballs are as welcome as smashed eggs on a front door, (breathy laugh here: "aaah hah-ha-ha") yet their voice samples want us to pretend their folksy delivery is somehow charming our wallets open.
It's either more grating or amusing when the board runner fat-fingers the controls and sends sound file repeats or broken samples, and/or incongruent responses. The already weak illusion of casual chatter is then destroyed, and there is little gained in arguing with a failed Turing Tester.
I'll wait to hear if "Steve" is better known as "Steve Savage" from the long 2020 barrage for a dubious police advocacy PAC. - Sir Bedevere| 1 replyHere's some of what I've come up with so far:
American Veterans Honor Fund,
Address shown on web site: 5680 King Centre Drive, Suite 600, Alexandria, VA 22315
VA Registered Office Address: 4445 CORPORATION LANE, STE 264, VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, 23462 (https://cis.scc.virginia.gov/EntitySearch/Bus ... ies%20=%20false)
President No AL QUAYE 5680 KING CENTRE DRIVE STE 600, ALEXANDRIA, VA, 22314 - 0000, USA 06/25/2019
Secretary No CRAIG MAGERKURTH 5680 KING CENTRE DRIVE STE 600, ALEXANDRIA, VA, 22314 - 0000, USA 06/25/2019

Both physical addresses are non-descript office buildings. I expect both "suites" are just mail boxes. - BigA replies to Sir Bedevere5680 bldg is a Regus and there are at least a dozen businesses that have that address including a plumber so it is a virtual office. The one at 4445 is also a DaVinci virtual office.
- Sir Bedevere| 1 replyOh, and speaking of scams... foulspeakers.com has once again stolen 800notes' content and is offering to delete it in return for payment: https://foulspeakers.com/176475/american-veterans-honor-fund-scam/
If the admins of 800notes can work out the IP address the foulspeakers.com bot is operating from (it's running daily scans by the looks of things) I'd suggest blocking it via .htaccess - Janet S. replies to Sir BedevereThanks Sir Bedvere, I just got one using the Caller ID "HANNAH OSTERHELD" from Savannah, GA.
I rely on your good advice! Thank you for your Services, SIR. - Bilbo| 2 repliesThese veteran charities so often turn out to be testosterone-challenged military wannabes or wastrels who flunked out of basic training, both playing the Stolen Valor schtick for sucker cash.
- MikeHuntleton replies to Bilbo| 1 replyOpinions are like....well, you know...and everyone has one, but that has got to be among the top contenders for "stupidest post of the month".
- Doris-BorisI looked at their website - not hard to find, just look for “ American Veterans Honor Fund”.
It looks like the same setup as the Police Fundraiser — Section 527 of the IRS tax code. Donations are NOT tax-deductible, and from what I can gather it’s for political lobbying/candidates etc.
However after all the calls I’ve gotten from similar groups they’re big on asking for money and very tight-lipped on accountability. I expect this new “charity” will be just like the others.
If someone wants to give to a veteran association they’d be better off donating to actual non-profits. And even then, a good charity will have the operation costs available. - post pending moderator approval
- John McI recently received a letter and "Sponsor Confirmation" stub regarding a telephonic "pledge" that I allegedly made in February last. This thing even has a pledge and confirmation number. THE THING IS, I NEVER TALKED TO THESE PEOPLE. I gather that what they are doing is taking names, phone numbers and addresses from whatever accessible telemarketing lists are out there and sending such letters and collections for pledges that were never made. SCAMMERS? OF COURSE. And, I would not be surprised if these people are affiliated with some PAC.
- gilbert replies to Sir Bedeverejust got that call, gonna see what they send in the mail LOL maybe some cheese for this shark they'll be some whine-ing on their part dont like dishonesty Explioting vets
- Alex B.| 1 replyI've been getting calls from this organization for several years. If you ignore the calls, they don't leave a message. If you block the calls, they spoof another number. Finally, I told them I would look at the material sent to me. I got it yesterday.
The limited amount of information in the letter sent states, "providing a training guide for veterans wishing to run for elective office... topics include grassroots campaigning, message development, how to communicate with voters, and how to leverage allies and partners to help veterans win elections."
I won't be sending them any money. - GregAtTheBeach replies to Alex B.Does the letter indicate that it is a charity, and show what type?
