OK so I depend on my local county clerk's office search function determined that in fact no there are no current cases pending against me. Yet I still get calls from local numbers that refer me to an 888 number regarding documents being filed against me for actions.   Anyone know the law about how you can be contacted for a legit legal process?? I don't want to call the number they gave.

What was the 888 number? That would be useful info since this is a Process Service type scam. And by posting in the thread for that number you are helping others that are getting these calls.
Legit process servers do not call ahead.

Agreed with above response. Process servers do not call you to warn you they are looking for you. Only perhaps if they were desperate to track you down after several weeks of stalking you outside your house would they try some alternate method of coming after you. And if the county clerk says there are no cases filed against you, then there is no process to even serve. Hence it is probably a scam and you should post on the relevant number to alert others.

The number i was initially called from was (901)440-1571, they said the company was Document services with a civil complaint.  They referred me to call 888 356 3533

Thanks! Will do.  The number was 888-356-3533 but the original call came from a local number,  901-440-1571

Looks like you put posts in those threads - Thanks.
If you do a site search on Documents service verification dept and Document Services you can get a pretty good idea about how this scam works. Google searches will turn up more hits, but it can take a while to sort and filter the results.

The salient info that most posters are concerned with is: Are the calls from (or going to) given numbers Safe/Trustworthy.  The answer in this case is NO. Do not call these crooks back. That only keeps them calling and very quickly the calls will become threatening.

You can find all sorts of good info on recognizing Process Service Scam calls. This can save from having to call court clerks. Know that the same crooks also make Phone Debt calls as well. Remember:

    - Process Servers do not call ahead and do not shake you down for money or payment. One of the current fave scripts they use is "your file just came across my desk and I wanted to reach out to you before taking action" or words to that effect.

    - A voice on the phone, a voice mail, an email or a fax is NOT LEGAL NOTICE OF A DEBT. Hang up such calls, do not call back. Block the number.

"...but the original call came from a local number,  901-440-1571"

Highly doubtful.  These telecriminal scumbags often have the ability to make the caller ID fields contain anything they want. This is called "spoofing", and it's to try to entice the potential victim to answer the call.  They'll commonly stuff the area code part with your area code, and sometimes even the exchange part will be the same as the called party's.  The latter is called "neighbor spoofing".

So why did this subject need its own special forum thread again?  I am sure that there are plenty of forum threads already on this subject and of course the posts should have been made in the correct number thread.

Is it better to be scolded for reviving an old thread or for creating a new one? The amount of text is going to be the same and isn't the forums meant for people to ask questions or discuss things without posting in the numbers?

Then we should eliminate the number threads altogether and simply let everyone make up their own special forum thread for the same subjects?  The amount of text isn't what is being questioned but I guess you couldn't figure that out?

I have been a process server. We don't call. Ever. Why? Because if we don't serve you the paper, if we can't see you in person and hand you the papers, we. don't. get. paid.

I'm sorry, but I do not understand what you are trying to say by focusing only on that aspect of my post. I possibly didn't ask the questions in the correct manner, so I will try again.

I have read a number of forum threads over the years and people being scolded for reviving an old existing thread and also for creating a new one, such as you have done here, so i asked:
"Is it better to be scolded for reviving an old thread or for creating a new one?"
But you haven't answered and I wanted to know what is better for future reference.
    The second question was:
"isn't the forums meant for people to ask questions or discuss things without posting in the numbers?"
You didn't really answer that one either, instead you placed an 'either/or' scenario as if there shouldn't be both and I ask because I don't understand what the forums are for if we are only supposed to use number threads.

You are avoiding the reason that people are being criticized.  In most cases they simply dredge up old threads because they are trolls and then they simply post useless drivel that is generally off topic as well.  Number threads are for reporting calls from phone numbers.  Forum threads are for subjects that don't have a phone number attached.  In this case there were two number threads available and the subject would have been better discussed there instead of a forum thread with a vague title to it.  Hope that helps because I am done explaining anything to you.

I am a little puzzled as well because the only reason numbers were brought into this thread was because B-Edwards asked. The OP then added them and even posted in the number threads as suggested. Everyone was on topic and seemed to have concluded the discussion, until your post.
