- Rebecca L.| 1 replyIN May My mother in Law recieved a call From Marc Singer informing her I was being taken to jail, and I needed to call this man ASAP, he told her about my debt, everything... She called me in a panic...
I called him only to be told this was for a payday loan I defaulted on in 2006, which is past the SOL in SC which is where I lived until 10 days ago, and that was where he filed the case. he then said he would be nice since his detective could not serve me, and stop the case if I would pay 300.00 by 5pm by money gram, wire transfer or credit card that day. I asked for information on the debt, or any paperwork as I have not even got anything collection paperwork from his company on this debt, and he said he could email me, and I gave him my email, then he asked for my address and I gave a fake one, and he told me it did not match in his computer... it was getting weird so I hung up. My husband thinks it was a scam as the debt is 5 years old.
The man called back 2 weeks later and was quite rude, told me I never called him back that his bosses were getting on him as he had stopped the court case, and I never paid, and I told him he never emailed me any info! he then said he would call me back after he emailed me something, and I did not pick it up, he called 5 times left a nasty voicemail telling me I told him I would be there to pick it up, and that my email was rejecting it, I finally gave in and called him back, he got the email sent through to me, and the email has my wrong address on it, now he wants me to pay 465.00 the date at the top of the email was May 2011 but the date I had to pay by was June 10, 2010!!! my husband saw it saved it and said this is such a scam!! but I told him I would not have the money and he told me they would take me to jail, garrnish my wages I have no wages I am on disability! and I offered to pay 20.00 a week he said he could take 200.00 by the end of the day, I hung up it was getting horrible..
he called on June 11,2011 at 7:25 in the morning and then he called my home number how ever he got that... nothing has a voicemail we turned it off so he calls every day both numbers all day long...
I am scared the cops are coming to get me, my husband thinks this is crap, and tells me not to worry, but I would love some feedback on this!!

private - CJYou cannot be arrested or jailed for debt, so put that worry out of your mind. They threaten that just to scare you into making an ill-informed and panicked decision and suck as much money as they can out of you.
Consult a lawyer about the harassment. Ask around to see what advice they can give for free if you can't afford to hire one. By disclosing private information to your MIL they have violated your privacy at the very least. - Rebecca L.| 1 replyThanks! I just filed some paperwork with a law Firm and we will see what happens.
- CJ replies to Rebecca L.Good luck! I hope this works out for you. No one deserves to be treated this way.

Well, if I had to take an abusive collector call from anyone, I could do a lot worse than the "Beastmaster" and "Mike Donovan".
Your early instinct was correct, to challenge the claim and not admit anything. Giving false contact data was a mistake. Collectors smell blood in the water if you contradict what they probably already know about you from sifting various databases. Eventually like the hybrids of con men and commissioned sales hacks they are, they found a button to push on you which got you talking about payment, which is tantamount to admitting liability.
The fact is by law you were owed a dunning letter on real paper weeks ago. You instead got into a convoluted dance over emails and phone calls when you needed to take the exchange straight to a paper trail. The collector of course would resist this, but too bad, the law is on your side. Threats of arrest and asset seizure violate FDCPA in a way a good consumer lawyer would jump at on contingency. I suspect there are numerous examples of violative deceptive practice in your story as well, on top of the obvious ploy to shame you by spooking your relatives.
Such harsh tactics usually indicate a lack of proof of the collector's claims. Being past SoL and mostly judgment proof, and having them cold on serious FDCPA violations, honestly puts you in a very good legal position. Even better if you've carefully documented all contacts with these hoods. You have a right to litigate in your own jurisdiction and not a former address. I doubt these clowns have actually drafted a civil complaint, but I wouldn't put it past them to try a "sewer serve" if they had the ambition.
In case you missed it, here's some homework on that federal law I keep citing:

Here are some other mystery caller forum links apparently on CMAG:

That final number you list (800-367-9444) looks to point to QVC customer service. Maybe you have some spoofing action?

Please tell me you don't mean Centennial .....
https://800notes.com/forum/ta-38f476cddda0f3f ... ebt-relief-help - cgraziaI have started a blog about this company and planning to share my experiences as well as the research I find out about this company. I saved the rude voicemail message the rep left on my voicemail as well. Anyone speaking to these people please RECORD the conversation. If they mention anything that crosses the legal lines it will provide more proof of what they are doing. I will also be finding out the reporting person at the state of California for companies like this one and posting it on my site. I also found out the name of the possible owner of the company but I am holding off on publishing it till I get confirmation first.
Here is the blog I started:

Please feel free to post your experiences or any information you have as well. If you want me to post someone for you please feel free to email me the information.
Thanks!
