SCAM: Junk text claims you've won $1000 Best Buy gift card
- Diane| 1 replyPreviously posted (160) after getting scam text on cell and emailed Best Buy with the concern. They promptly replied:
Hi Diane, Thank you for contacting Best Buy about the message you received. We are aware of a fraudulent text message that informed recipients they had won a Best Buy gift card. The text message did not originate with Best Buy or Geek Squad, and is currently being investigated. Its important to note that scammers today use many channels like Twitter, e-mail and text messages to drive traffic to their free gift card offers. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Because Best Buy is a well known company it is subject to people or parties inaccurately portraying themselves for their own benefit. While Best Buy cannot always stop such activity before it is provided to our customers or the general public it is important that this information is sent for resolution to keep it from spreading. This is a form of fraud which Best Buy does not support and seeks to stop as soon as it is reported. DETERMINING PHISHING SCAMS: With many different types of fraudulent inquiries, sweepstakes or surveys our customers are often asked to verify credit card numbers, names, addresses or other sensitive information. Never devulge this information over the phone or in an email. Best Buy would never request this information in this manner. To address this issue, I am documenting your case and submitted a request to remove your phone from all of our marketing. Please allow up to 48 hours to process your request. Due to production, mailing and system timelines, it may take up to 10 business days for the requested changes and, until those changes take effect, you may still receive marketing communications from us. Rest assured we are not sending these text messages. Please let me know if I can assist you further. I am just an email away!
