Greetings. Okay, I'm a telemarketers crash dummy... not no more ! I bought a " Call Blocker. " It costs a hundred bucks but for me, a retired fellow who's home all day from the many telemarketing phone calls coming so fequently, and from the same people, that it amounts to harrassment.
Yes, I've been on the No Call List forever but its just a scam to bilk taxpayers. These devils are as worthless as any other do nothing but collect a salary and pension government agency.
Anyway, this unit plugs into your phone line and from the unit then to your house phone. It has 3 modes of operation... the default " Standard " mode intercepts all " out of area, anonymous, private, unknown, spoofed numbers. " It automatically hangs up on callers fitting these criterior. NICE !
It allows a VIP caller list to ring through you program into the unit. It will shut off whenever you tell program it to so night workers wont be bothered.
Do a search for Digitone.com and read their PDF covering all the features. You must have Caller ID for it to work. Nonetheless, for me its more than worth the hundred bucks... in our day and age we have to pay money for our privacy.
I have something very similar (perhaps a bit older) but it does the same thing and has been a Godsend. It isn't perfect, but blocks about 95% of the unwanted, unsolicited calls from telemarketers. I wouldn't have a land line without this thing.

Folks, be aware that there are many ways to achieve phone peace, many of them free.
Get a free Google Voice Account, and forward your home phone to it, or port your phone number there, and get a new number for your home phone that you keep private. Depending on your phone carrier, you may also be able to simply set GV as your voice mail provider. There are many ways you can configure GV to meet your needs.
Switch your phone service to a VOIP provider which offers good call filtering (call treatments). Callcentric is one, but there are plenty of others.
Some phones (including some Panasonic models) have a built-in call blocking capability.
PBX in a Flash (Asterisk) is a free and very powerful solution for those that like to tinker with technical things.
Do a little research, and don't let somebody talk you into spending money when you can do it for free.

I left Bell South (Now bought out by the NEW ATT) and went to Ooma (see ooma.com). Its a VOIP phone, and yes, you still need an internet connection, but not to spam you on this, just another option. It has a great blacklist feature that lets you add numbers from a call log. And you can access it from any WEB Browser from anywhere. Works for me.
