    lone stranger
In browsing the site I have become aware of a wide range of threads citing the caller as "Broadvox".

If you look at such threads, you can mistakenly conclude that Broadvox is doing everything from bottom feeder bill collection to solicitation for phony charities.  I thought it might be helpful if I cleared this confusion up.

Broadvox is simply a VOIP telephone service provider.  The people doing all these questionable things are customers of Broadvox, and not Broadvox themselves.  Broadvox does not appear to be responsible for the calls.

I do find it hard to understand why Broadvox allows the CNAM to appear with their name instead of the customer's name.  It almost makes me wonder if they are actively catering to the "sleazy demographic".  But they do seem to have some legitimate customers, and I am sure they have some explanation for the failure to provide full disclosure in the caller ID info.

At one time Broadvox offered residential service, although I understand they may have withdrawn from that market.

If someone is being illegally harassed or threatened by way of a Broadvox provided phone service, you may wish to contact them to see if they can assist you, or share this information with law enforcement.

If you feel that Broadvox is behaving like an enabler, then you may wish to write them a letter asking them to vet their clientele more carefully, or perhaps even contact the appropriate regulatory bodies, such as the FCC.

I'm not saying that they are behaving that way, because I simply don't know.  But some of you may feel that way based on comments I have seen elsewhere on the Internet. And again, the Caller ID issue is odd.  I personally use more than one VOIP provider, and none of them shows their company name in my outbound caller ID info.  Very strange seeming to me.

VoIP is used for phishing, since these calls are harder to trace and easier to spoof. Reason enough to avoid such calls.

You actually dredged up this years old thread to tell everyone what we have known for years? Only a troll would do that, unless you get points for dredging up old threads, wait, that would be troll activity as well.
