Well I guess the first problem was getting the information off the internet instead of reading the directions that came with the call blocker.  I always say, when all else fails, read the directions!

If your looking for help in using your blocking device, it would help to know what the device is. Turning off the 'one ring' option for just the blocked calls does not apply to every blocking device or phone.

    How do I fix this?
First determine if your device supports the option for ONLY blocked calls. If it does, then make the appropriate option adjustments. If it does not, then upgrade to a device that does. Easy-peasy!

Turning off the first ring allows the caller ID info time to reach the blocker, and gives the blocker time to review the number to see if it should be blocked.

For blocked calls, you want to turn off ALL of the rings!  There's no way to turn off the first ring for just some calls, because it's using that time to get and examine the CID number...

    tired of these junk calls

I have an Ooma phone system. I love it!  I think my husband bought this system online. There is a monthly fee of $16 but it is worth it. I need a landline for my job so that is why I have this system. You can block individual numbers - I think up to 1000.  I just discovered if you go under the preferences part of the menu that you can block by phone number, area code or by names on the caller ID. Its really cut down on my junk and these scammer calls.  So as example, I know there is a scammer out there pretending to be a Breast Cancer charity.  I blocked the name breast and cancer - if these are in the caller ID, the number is automatically blocked. They also go by the initials UBCF and CCI - so I blocked both of those in the name section of the blocking feature. I blocked those "hello this is Jennifer or Rachel" calls about their special credit card.  Those calls come across starting with a V. So I blocked anything that starts with a V. Those calls have stopped.  If anyone really needs to reach me, they use my cell and I have those number so people I know in the contact list so I can tell important calls from junk calls there too.  Hope this helps.

I'm quite surprised that moderators allowed your post that named a specific call blocker device.  Any time I've done that, my posts get deleted.

Note the name of the call blocker Greg-THAT is why. There are two that when named get nailed, one begins with D the other with N. Ooma hasn't been spammed all over the site. Plus, blocking the name of call blockers on a thread FOR talking about call blockers makes little sense

I think there is one that starts with T as well that gets auto deleted.

Heinz57, I realize this is many years later, yet this still info applies.

Here's one US and International Area Code List.
And Area Codes by State, and Area Code Listing (shows unassigned exchanges).

I programmed my call blocker to ignore any international numbers, as well as unassigned exchanges from area codes that tend to scam more than usual. I only have 800 slots, so I have to go through occasionally to remove blocks that haven't got any more calls.

Some scammers call on an ongoing basis (50+ calls from a few numbers is not uncommon).

A good call blocker can block - Names,Numbers,Area Codes,Exchanges,White List. I've used several different blockers. Most of them stop working properly after a few months. On my elderly mother's landline,I have online access and can monitor her calls. I can "Call Block","Selective Call Forward" and I discovered a new one - "Advanced Call Forwarding." I set it to ring on MY CELL,when she gets an incoming call. Her calls went WAY DOWN instantly ! How did the scammers get that info so fast ? I can think of 2 ways - A scammer working for the phone co. or a Hack !

The DNC is not a call blocker list nor does it block calls. It is merely a list of numbers that do not want to receive SALES CALLS....nothing more.

No, that is one of the nitwits that thinks the crooks need to have that list so that they know which numbers to call.
