I can’t remember the last time I blocked a number. I’ve found it useless as most of the scam calls are coming from spoofed numbers in my area code. I would have to believe that Apple or the IRS or Amazon and so on all have offices in my neighborhood (they use my prefix too). I see a few blocked occasionally, but it’s because of private number or things like that, rarely my old regulars. Hopefully I’m just getting less calls.

I have an Ooma phone system. I love it!  I think my husband bought this system online. There is a monthly fee of $16 but it is worth it. I need a landline for my job so that is why I have this system.

Ooma is not a landline phone system, for anyone that cares. It's a VOIP (Voice-Over IP) or Internet phone.  It's also why you get more "V..." calls, because computers are scamming your Ooma "phone number" directly over the Internet.

Nice call-blocking features.  Unfortunately, if anyone calls you back on their VOIP line, it appears you already blocked them with the "V*" block.

p.s. Yes, I know this is an old post.

@MK-  Actually I wouldn’t be 100% surprised if this was true. Off and on over the past year (especially with Coronavirus afoot) I’ve received more scam calls. Probably went from one or two daily to about seven or eight? I’ve dutifully reported them - as many as I can - as time allows.

On several occasions I’ve noticed that as soon as I report a call to the gov’t website, my phone will ring with another scam call within 4-5 minutes!!!?? This was weird. I originally thought it was coincidence, but now I’m starting to see a correlation.

It rarely happened in the beginning, but like clockwork, I’ll report a call - my phone will be blocking (or unfortunately sometimes letting a call through) a scam caller. For example yesterday: a call came thru early @ 8:35 am. I reported it close to 9 am. Another telemarketing call came thru @ 9:12 am. I reported that one on my lunch break around 12:30 and then I received another solicitor calling me - around 12:45... reported that around 3pm. Within about 2 minutes, I got another freakin’ call!! It was kind of creepy,

This is happening more and more. I noticed the FTC changed their site so when you hit “just an annoying call” (which that -in and of itself- is somewhat annoying) you can make the complaint, send it through, it will verify it’s sent and give a thank you for the info...but now I’m actually thinking and wondering if that has something to do with the frequency of these calls. It is so much more than before!

I know people cannot recommend a call blocking device (or app) on here, but isn’t there some app that block complete ranges of numbers? Thank you.

There are call blockers which enable you to block entire area codes. Use your favorite search engine to find one.

Just wanted to say I have a great call blocker for the land line.  If I do 40 then Area Code then *, it blocks the whole area code.  But if I want to block a specific Prefix I can do that too, for example 40320219*, that blocks area code and the prefix after it.  Mine does not have the big red button, it has a red tic tac, a green tic tac, and a blue tic tac It's a black box that looks like the regular old fashioned caller ID.  If you do a search you'll probably find it.  I wish they had one of these for a cell phone that did the same thing.
