Hello everyone out there that has received emails and or phone calls from these 202 area code scammers!!! I want to let you know that I took a different approach to the email and actually responded with a fake name, age(over 70) and that I was retired. I gave them my phone number and within hours started receiving phone calls from Nigeria. Then a number came up 202 or the DC area so I started a text conversation. I only would respond to them by text. I kept them preoccupied for the entire day on and off to the point that they started getting belligerent!! LOL a scammer was getting made at me!! Started calling me a fool and if I wasn't going to send them money to stop bothering them :-). Finally when they realized that I wasn't going to be scammed I would dial their number and just let it ring and ring. The point I'm making here is that if everyone in the US responded to just one of these emails and entertained them with the possibility of getting money this would keep them busy and decrease the number of elderly victims getting scammed.
I went ahead and responded to the same email with a different profile and my number again and they called me and I proceeded another text conversation. Yes kept them on the hook for another day until they figured out I wasn't sending money. So US citizens take charge and fight back to make these scammers less successful. My goal is to continue to bother them till they have to change their number again, and again.
So think about doing it just once and string them along.
    Thanks Elana

I got a call from an unknown number and name. They left a voice mail saying i had a complaint against me and that i need to call 202 747 5391. When called i spoke to someone named Stephanie Halloway, she told me i was being sued for 1500 for a payday loan that was taken out in my name and i could stop all legal charges against me if i paid 328 that day. Im sure its a scammer but im not 1005 sure. I call the county clerk and theres no legal action pending against me. Help?!

    Dawn,

It is a scam.  If you were to be served, they would not call to ask for money, etc.  You would just be served papers to answer and a court date.  People are not put in jail for non payment of debt.  Worst case is that it is a bill you legitimately owe, and then you would be sued.  Do NOT pay anyone who calls on the phone money to make "charges" or jailtime go away as they are all scams.  DO NOT give them any information or you are just digging a bigger hole for yourself to get out of.  If you do owe the debt, contact the original company you owe the debt to and pay it if you can.  Or make a payment plan with them.  Do not think the scammers will help you or even make the original debt go away.  They work by making people who do not know the legal system afraid, and pocket any money they receive.

    Have a good day!

As per the Federal Grants website at http://www.grants.gov

YOU WILL NOT BE CONTACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO OFFER YOU A GRANT.
The government does not contact people to offer them money. If you do qualify for a government grant, the government does not request payment for it.

THERE ARE NO FEES ASSOCIATED WITH APPLYING FOR A GOVERNMENT GRANT.
Providing financial information to prove that you qualify for a government grant is typical, but you should never pay money to apply for a grant. People who run scams often claim to provide help and sometimes claim to be "federal government" officials, don't be fooled by these scams that request money from you.

ALL GOVERNMENT GRANTS INVOLVE AN APPLICATION PROCESS
If you have not submitted an application for a government grant and someone claims you have been awarded one, it's a scam. Grant money is not given over the phone for a fee. In order to qualify for a grant you must apply for the specific opportunity that you are qualified to apply for.

GOVERNMENT GRANTS ARE AWARDED FOR EXPLICIT OPPORTUNITIES
Government Grants are typically awarded to states, cities, educational institutions, nonprofits and other organizations to fund research and other projects.

GOVERNMENT GRANT APPLICATIONS AND INFORMATION IS FREE
Be cautious of offers that ask for your personal information (especially financial) when requesting a fee to access grant information. You can always access free information about government grants and other benefits at Grants.gov and Govbenefits.gov

If you get this call, please report it to:

I have received two calls from 202-506-8602 and 202-506-8798 saying that they were from the IRS. They told me that this matter was very important and not to disregard the call. I have not called them back and have no intention to do so. I'm guessing they want money.

    >>> US GOVERNMENT GRANTS for $10,200.00. Using 202 & 206 area codes. <<<

Please find the number threads by entering the relevant phone numbers in the "Phone Number Search" search box found in the right column of every page of this web site (or near the bottom of the page for some browsers) and clicking the "Search" button to the right of the box.

Otherwise, your post is worse than useless, because it has no useful information in it and it unfairly and incorrectly stigmatizes huge numbers of legitimate callers from the 202 and 206 area codes.

Just to let you know, It is a SCAM! if you owe any money to any one, you call the "real number" that they claim that you owe to. and they can confirm if you owe them or not. But it sounds like a SCAM to me, and that i'm 100% sure. Hope this helps.
