Creative Spoofing

I started to receive calls from (855) 302-8651 in early September of this year. Caller-id always came up as "Toll Free" and the consistency and timing of these calls have usually been roughly 3-days apart. Needless to say, I looked this number up right here in September and learned it was coming from AMCA - American Medical Collection Agency. I checked other sources to confirm and its indeed them.

Phone number blocked in phonetray and that was that until yesterday. It seems AMCA did not take kindly to my blocking their number and have decided to embark on some creative spoofing with their caller-id. Since the reporting structure here prohibits me from making a formal report via the normal channels I will simply list the two "new" numbers that AMCA has decided to identify with and which they believe will fool people into believing these calls are coming from an overseas location hence the 011 "area code".

They are now calling from:
(011) 8553-028651
(101) 1855-3028651

Notice its still the original number only slightly spoofed. I smell some misrepresentation and deception here and with two successful claims under my belt for this type of fraud, perhaps number three is just around the corner.

Seriously? Seems they care more about profits than the fact that spoofing the number doesn't make them look legit anymore. I'll do some checking around and see what I come up with-I doubt it will be much, but you never know.

Upon searching that on the Whois.Domaintools, I find it registered out in Elmsford, NY-here is that information: http://whois.domaintools.com/amcaonline.com-it was set up using an AOL account. Are you free Mr. Herman? You're using the phonetray free, correct? When their paid version came out I bought it, but switched back to the free one. I still think the free version is better (If it ain't broke, right?) But I've never had these kind of junk calls on my end. Thanks for posting this, as we all try to be proactive. Let us know when you post the tutorial over at Beta. In case no one knows this, you MUST have an internet connection on your computer if you use the paid phonetray. You need internet to register the software, but if the internet is off/disconnected, after a few days it wants you to register it again. Stick with the free one.

I'm freeee Mr. Badge! Yes I use phonetray free but I payed for the pro version only because the program has provided me 3+ years of very useful service. When I did purchase pro, I did load it on another machine just to be sure that the features there wouldn't provide any greater benefit. For me, it doesn't so the pro version sits quietly  zipped on my drive, reserved for future use.

Good point, you MUST have the internet on at all times and a computer connected to phonetray for the program to work. I think a tutorial on that may also have to be made.

The tutorial on this particular subject will only happen once my spoofy friends call again and I see that phonetray has done the job. They consistently call every three days - so it shouldn't be too much longer before I hear (or in this case don't hear but log them on phonetray) again.
