I just got a Sentry Call Blocker (from Amazon) about a week ago and recently just set that in "Advanced" mode.
Though not perfect, I really really like the blocker. I set it up with a splitter next to my phone and answering machine. The blocker rings only once and then blocks spam or telemarketing calls. Callers on my "Accept" list ring through as usual.
Other blockers I considered were the Digitone Plus and CPR Blocker (the one with the big red button).

August & September were a little crazy as far as junk phone calls go. Very strange, but October seems to be quiet. As of today, the 16th, I've gotten 4 junkers all month. Yes, I know everyone wants this problem, but it does show that if you use a call blocker, no voicemail, & don't call them back - it does get better. If you do not talk to them, they do not make any money. Not making money? Then they REALLY don't want to talk to you. . . "Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
I think it tends to go in spurts. I get a few calls like this for a year, most of the time less then 4, then it will jump up 4-6, and then once in a while, there's a spurt with numbers that are consistent. I never let them go to the answering machine if I don't recognize the number. I did add a call blocker recently to cover the unknown name, unknown number, and the private name and number area's. I've only actually blocked like 5 numbers, 3 area codes and the area codes are ones that seem to get heavy traffic here.
I like being able to see the number and just hit that little red button though. That's more fun then picking it up and hanging it up!

I use Phone Tray Free. Best thing since sliced bread. Can block calls many different ways and play any message you want to individual numbers. Tell these numbers your phone is disconnected, tell those people to get bent, tell others a long you are on hold message to [***] telemarketers, what ever you want. Been using it since 2006. Not only block calls but now I have a list of every call I received since 2006 if I ever need it and I have. Go ahead keep calling it's your dime.
Sentry call blocker got it on sale from Amazon $30 + Works great!! Have 64 rejects and 30 accept Just tells you how many blood suckers are out to get something for nothing New trend in America it seems No one wants to work anymore Just give it to me because I am breathing. Ha
Just got a call from one who pressed "0" and so the ringer on the Sentry call blocker rang. From here, found out it was someone calling on a wireless for the upcoming election. I quickly added that number to my "reject" list :)

We subscribe to a call blocking service through our ISP. It suits our needs and gets rid of the pests.

The T-Lock Call Blocker N2 has been working pretty well for me. The year on the display keeps resetting itself back to 2012, but it's just a nuisance that doesn't affect the call-blocking functionality. I like the 1500 number capacity, it's already about 1/3 full, and I've only had it since the beginning of the year..

I got rid of my land line years ago. On my cell I rarely get telemarketers. I have been getting a lot of political calls, but they'll probably end the day after the election. For now I'm putting those numbers in my contacts list and assigning them the ring tone "no ring".
Some areas have no cell or very little cell coverage. Where I live is one. Some cells pick up, others do not and that for installing a tower 3 miles away no less. So a land line is a evil necessity in case of emergency and the need to call 911. If they ever get around to getting the cell coverage here that needs to be, then I'll consider tossing the land line.

We still have a land line and have seen a huge increase in scam calls. I consider ANY uninvited call a scam call. Most of the time we just ignore them and let them go to voicemail. If it's important they'll leave a message.

We have the Panasonic Link-to-Cell Cellular Convergence Solution KX-TG7645. I can add 30 numbers to block. Plus I can add 10 numbers in AT&T's block system. The thing I wish they had with the Panasonic system is that if it's a blocked number, why can't the ringer be silent. It rings once and does its thing. I just don't want to hear it like with the AT&T system. So the calls I received the most of are the ones I block on AT&T. Like those that come every day! Something I do like on this Panasonic is the talking caller ID. Saves me from having to get up to see who it is. I like the caller ID feature on my Dish also.
