Which Call Blocker (if any) Do You Use?
- Jim-LA| 6 repliesWe don’t need another call blocker topic!
These multiple call-blocker topic threads just confuse visitors. They should all be consolidated under the parent topic here: https://800notes.com/forum/ta-5d4e343675a5629/call-blocking-devices and then these duplicate topic threads should be locked.
The real problem, I believe, is that the 800Notes search function no longer supports a keyword search in the forums. The search boxes are now restricted to phone numbers only. Trying to search for “call blockers” triggers the error message “the phone number is too short”. I think this change was introduced sometime in late 2014 because I was able to do keyword searches from the upper top search box (as viewed in Chrome) earlier in 2014.
When searching for “call blockers” in Google, Bing, or Yahoo – 800Notes isn’t listed on the 1st page of results! We’re on page 2-3 of Google and Bing; I couldn’t find us in 10 pages of Yahoo!
The lack of an 800Notes keyword search, especially in the forums, is responsible for users duplicating topic threads all over the place! Then our shills take advantage of the opportunity to post misdirection in an attempt to manipulate opinion and debate. Regulars are then drawn in and, essentially, repost content that already appears within the original topic threads in order to rebuff the shills.
I would like to see 800Notes bring back the forum keyword search capability to help stop all these duplicate threads from being created in the future. Superfluous topic threads wastes the time and energy of our helpful regulars, a limited and free resource that helps make 800Notes work! - BigA replies to Jim-LA| 4 repliesYou bring up a valid point, but I still think the problem is people that are too lazy to look up the proper thread to post in. I think 99% of these forum threads have gone past being useful to anyone. These thread should be restricted to subjects that cannot be brought up in the number threads. Limit one thread per subject. Perhaps if they were harder to start it might make a difference. For instance if you wanted to start a forum thread you would have to go through a capcha. At least it might prevent some of the spam and make it more difficult for lazy people to post forcing them to look up the number instead of starting a new thread. We had this call blocking thread up last night clearly visible, and some one started another thread on the same subject.
- chefgijoeI use a variety of apps so i can get enough information to take these jerks to court.
Caller ID white pages
Privacy Star
phone 2 location
So far the calls drop and you hit a moment of random calls here and there - chefgijoe replies to jerryi have that one to and it works great.
- Annoyed replies to SharpshooterWe started using nomorobo.com a couple of weeks ago, and it seems to work very well. You don't have to download anything, and it works with our wired landline VOIP phone (ATT-Uverse). Like many blockers, it does ring the blocked calls once, and usually the caller's number shows up on the ID. But if it rings just once, we know it's a junk call. We have a discrete stand-alone answering machine. We're thinking about just turning the ringers off all the phones and telling our friends to go through the 4th ring to the answering machine. It's loud enough where we can hear it most anywhere in the house. We'll answer when we know who it is and it's not a junk call. If we're close enough to one of the caller IDs, see it light up, and we recognize the caller, we'll answer right away. Hopefully, doing this will bring peace and quiet to our house as well. Down with junk phone calls! Are these people crazy? Why waste time calling people who not only are poor prospects but also despise the entire concept of junk calls? They're either crazy or they're idiots.
- Amazon device callerMe too.
- RU reading thisI mean I bought an amazon blocker online.
I hope to get it in the mail soon. - Let me know ur feedbackto what im saying, purchased 2 devices Panasonic and Sony. Call blockers are good inventions, they block unwanted call and household can sleep late not be woken up by unwanted callers from dubious places.
- John K.I use a Nokia call organizer. It has many features that help me sort out numbers that I want and don't want. Bought it from BestBuy on discount @9.99
- vagaI use a Pro Call blocker from H2telecom,the older version that doesnt have the blue LED Screen it works great.
I thought it died the other day when my power went out,so I went to the site to check prices as I was going to buy another $40 best thing I ever bought..one thing I really like about it is,it powers through the phone jack
no power plug needed. It has some minor irritations,or "I really wish it did this"
but it blocks calls and thats all that really matters.
I moved into a new house and apparently got someones phone number who was in default of something.
It didn't matter what I asked them the calls didn't stop and it was like 20 calls a day.
I had to change my number,,and the process started all over again,,ugh
I use this on a landline as I don't own a cell..I Know Gasp right!
My phone has a block feature on it,but as they change numbers so often that feature is pretty useless quickly.
30 numbers is nothing when one caller uses 5 or 6 numbers. - JoeHova| 1 replyI'm wondering why the superfluous thread?

https://800notes.com/forum/ta-46ddaf968fd6783/how-to-block-unwanted-calls - MidNYteStorm replies to JoeHovaYou will see threads like that pop up from time to time. We had many threads like, Received call with my own name and number in caller ID. The admins eventually lock them so we are only dealing with one.
- William replies to Jim-LA'When searching for “call blockers” in Google, Bing, or Yahoo – 800Notes isn’t listed on the 1st page of results!'
People can make this site the first page of results by restricting search terms like this :
call blocker site:800notes.com
The problem is every webpage on this site that contains those two words will be listed in the results, and there are thousands of comments with those two words now. Perhaps that is why the admins blocked non-number searches. Too many useless hits.
Why not create a master-index-type locked forum page titled "Call Blocker threads" and within that thread list all the URLs of the threads about call blockers ? We supply the URLs of these threads and the admins update this locked master-index page (because they can always unlock and modify anything). The admins also put the URL to the master-index page on the home page so it is easily seen, maybe also each page ? - NeverAcknowledgeI wrote my own software package. It blocks pretty much 100% of all nuisance calls. It has the same basic functions that PhoneTray has, but it is more aggressive at blocking calls, as suits my preference. Some days, it has blocked as many as 20 nuisance calls. That's 20 times I didn't have to listen to my phone ring with offers to get a better Google placement or lower my energy costs. I don't think things are going to get better until this type of blocking technology becomes standard for every phone line.
- NeverAcknowledge replies to jgold| 2 repliesI wrote my own program as well. It runs on my main PC with a no-name caller id modem. It was written in Delphi XE2. If I were to write it over again today, I would use Python as I now have my own Python-GUI interface using the system browser and Python's local HTTP interface (BaseHTTPServer, CGIHTTPServer). I'd be happy to share the code with you.
I use a combined white and black list with ranges and wild-card matching on both number and caller id string, however, the most effective feature by far is that the program crawls the Internet looking for keyword matches on strings such as "scam", "telemarketer", "google placement", etc., and extracts the numbers and caller id strings associated with those keywords to add to the blacklist .
The hang-up strategy is to kill the call as quickly as possible once the block decision has been made. My thinking is to tie-up the line as little as possible as I don't see any sign that simulating disconnected lines and other similar strategies does much good. This is just my opinion as I have no facts to support me on this.
