Rachel from card services

Just got a call and the caller ID showed my own name and phone number. Call went to voice mail and it was Rachel from card services telling me about lowering my interest rate. This is an old scam but they have never used my own name and phone number in caller ID. I have always blocked these numbers but now how am I suppose to block my own number??  This is getting ridiculous!!

It happened to me.I called Comcast, and their security team told me the only way to stop your own spoofed number from calling  is to block it,like you would any other number.
    Hope this helps.

There are probably dozens of threads with probably hundreds of "me too" responses, on this board started by people who were astonished to get a call from a scammer using the called number for the spoofed caller ID. Not to be rude, but this is not news, and 10 seconds of searching before posting would have revealed that to you.

    Sheesh, this is getting old.

Since mid-May there have been thirteen prior forum threads devoted to the Mirror Spoof phenomenon. Some have been launched only a few days apart. We've had repeated discussion of the deceptive technique, possible countermeasures, and the fact that some site contributors are failing to read the foregoing before they slap up yet another thread.

This is the second thread to cite "Rachel" and the credit reprice scam in its title. While reports indicate that for now this single category of illegal sales caller is the only one subject to Mirror Spoof, nothing prevents any other kind of scofflaw from trying the same stunt.

Or, use your other investigative senses, and research.
Sure, log the cid as being your own, or just turn the darn cid readout off !

Actually, “Rachel” isn’t too hard to track.  Also can work with some of the others, like med alert, and home security shills.
Watch the job ads during lulls in the calls/complaints for the specific information, i.e. - “med alert fronters wanted”. These are commonly found in Florida, and Utah “customer service” categories.
Then, sure enough, the robo-calls and resulting 800Notes complaints begin to roll in, usually one to three days later !   I don’t need a cid spoof to see a burst of complaints in the same shill category, time frame, and script, to suspect that’s the same ones calling me.
Coincidence of many coincidences, maybe. But, didn’t Einstein say repeating the same thing over and over, expecting different results equals insanity, or in this case- running a non-compliant telemarketing operation?

    COMCAST?
I have noticed that after I have called Comcast with internet problems (connected to middle eastern speaking person) that I began getting calls later the same day  for "computer virus" scam  from number 805-785-9004.    This has happened twice..  Wondering if this could be the common denominator to these "computer virus" scammers and the number they call?  Anyone else start getting calls after calling Comcast?

Are these "scammers" getting our numbers from places that outsource their call centers to India?
