    If you had put their phone number in the search you would have found it.

    They are a relatively new criminal debt collector trying to scare people into paying their extortion money.  It might not be a bad idea to have a separate forum thread for them since i think we will be hearing much about them.
    Also using this number:  800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-207-613-8770

    No, a separate forum thread is likely to get buried where it would be almost impossible to find.  This website is phone-number driven, so comments are best placed on the number threads.

    I just got. Call from Mandi Laies from Omega Mediation 713.300.5172 x 417 asking to pay an 8k debt from almost 8 years ago. I asked her to send me by mail, she said this was their last call before legal action. Trying to find out if this is scam.

    It's a scam because they will not send you the legally-required paperwork by US mail.
    They threaten legal action "soon" but federal law requires no action by them for 30 days, other than sending you the paperwork.

    Put the phone number in the search box and get more answers, if no one has pasted before then be the first. My guess someone is trying to scare money out of you. They have to send a letter within five days after first contact with all of the information.

    I don't know where you got any 30 day stay on collection activity. An alleged debtor per FDCPA gets that long to respond to the initial dunning letter. The collection agency can do what it legally pleases until given notice by the consumer to do or not do something provided by law. A timely written validation request, for example, enables a form of no-contact order until that request is fulfilled.

    Informational post:

    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

    Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

    The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

    is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
    refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
    asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
    exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
    If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
    Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
    If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

    Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
    Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
    Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
    Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

    3.5 months later, the a/c 855 number thread runs only two pages and the one you list has a grand total of one complaint ... meaning we are not "hearing much" after all and most concerned users have placed comments exactly where they belong.

    It would be wise to know your laws and then "u" would not worry about these complaints. People who owe nothing they claim are contacted by companies like these many times. Come here for guidance and what do you know! I'm not surprised  ... by the stories of the same old lawbreaking tactics used by fraudulent collectors working battered junk debt portfolios obtained at a fire sale price.

    The first number has 2 pages of complaints.  The second number has nothing in it so anyone looking for information at that number thread won't have a clue as to what is going on, and the third number has one complaint from someone who needs more information.  Unfortunately, posting that here won't help anyone else.

    this company claims to be located in South Carolina. "Omega Mediation"...  if they can't send you proof of your original payday loan by US Mail, there's your clue they are operating illegally...  If you live in a state where payday loans are illegal,  (Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire ,New York,  North Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming...  ) you can't be sued, arrested, garnished, or have any action whatsoever done to you,  so DO NOT pay them, report them to your local Attorney General...
